Question about Apple iPod nano 3rd Generation

1 Answer

Computer not recognizing iPod

My 3rd gen 4g nano will recognize being connected to a power source, but not to the computer. I have tried the first four R's that Apple suggests, but as it can't recognize the computer, I can't reset it. Is there any way to restore the iPod to factory settings without connecting to the computer? I'm not worried about losing all my information on it.

I tried different computers and cords... I ended up opening iTunes without the iPod and going under Help/Run Diagnostics. I selected to run diagnostics on just the iPod, an error message came up and then it worked. I'm not sure HOW it worked, but it did. Thanks!

The problem might not be the ipod it could be the usb drive on the computer or the the ipod cord itself...

Try put the cord in a diffrent port or slot besides the one you normally use. Some times they short out. Mines did. Or you could use someone else computer.

put your ipod in disk mode by following these steps.
press and hold the Menu and Center buttons on the clickwheel. when you see the apple appear, switch your fingers to the center and play/pause buttons.
whena check mark appears plug it into you computer and it should detect and mount.
add music and have fun.

Ipod not recognized as a drive.i need help. it is an ipod touch 8 g 2nd gen

Plug your ipod into a USB 2.0 port and see if that helps.
or try a different port on your computer. make sure your not connecting the ipod
through a hub. Sometimes the hubs don't carry enough power to drive the ipod.
if this doesn;t help get back to me and I will help further.

I had that problem one time and the only way to get rid of that icon was to plug it into my Bose sound dock. You could also try another brand of sound dock to see if it works. Good luck
