This is more likely a problem with the nVidia video chip. The problem with this laptop model is that the video chip extremely overheats. When you shut down the computer, the video chip cools down. When this cycle repeats several times, the solder holding the chip to the motherboard starts to dry & eventually crack. When this happens, symptoms like the one you described starts to appear.

Boot your computer with winxp disk then follow the procedure. Press enter for install new xp then you see partition delete all partition then create again then install xp in first partition try this 3 to 4 times so that error not comes .you can do it. From your start menu, choose computer, at the top of that window hit system properties, on the left hit system protection, It should be open to the system retore page, Hit the system restore button. What you want is to restore to the last day your computer shut down right. For me that was just before the last windows update on 5/7/2009 when my computer as well started not shutting down. The system restore doesn't erase any of your files it just restores the system files and drivers back to the date you specify. Worked for me!
