super slow respons to exiting windows and other programs, adapter rectangular unit gets hot. How do fix overheating problem

  • BillW50 May 11, 2010

Try removing the battery and run it on AC and see if the problem goes away. Otherwise it sounds like it is overheating. Try something like BattStat v0.98 and let us know what the temp says for the CPU and HD.

Usually disassemble he laptop where the cooling fan is and the thermal guides are and blow them out with a can of compressed air. Many notebooks have a trap door on the bottom to do this.

Hp pavillion dv9000 laptop restart/ hang after 1 hour & shows garbage display in between it. pls tell me whether it's the problem of nvedia or display cable

This is more likely a problem with the nVidia video chip. The problem with this laptop model is that the video chip extremely overheats. When you shut down the computer, the video chip cools down. When this cycle repeats several times, the solder holding the chip to the motherboard starts to dry & eventually crack. When this happens, symptoms like the one you described starts to appear.

"logging off" ... it never ends. now what?

From your start menu, choose computer, at the top of that window hit system properties, on the left hit system protection, It should be open to the system retore page, Hit the system restore button. What you want is to restore to the last day your computer shut down right. For me that was just before the last windows update on 5/7/2009 when my computer as well started not shutting down. The system restore doesn't erase any of your files it just restores the system files and drivers back to the date you specify. Worked for me!
