My Blue Ray DVD Player won't play new titles

I have a Sony Blue-Ray DVD player. I recently purchased the movies Wanted and Mummy III and my player won't play them. The films boot up and I get the menu but when I press the remote to play the movie, the equipment shuts down and comes back on and starts the boot process all over again. I thought they were defective and returned them but the replacments do the same thing. I also bought the film Batman Returns and have had no problems with that one. I also rent Blue-Ray titles from Blockbuster and have not had any problems.

I can first see the trailers, then goes to the main menu, there I select "Play", but it returns to main menu. I try starting the movie from scens selections, but same problem, it returns to main menu.

My rca blueray dvd player will only play dvd not blue ray

What model player do you have? What movies are you trying to watch?

Check if there is a firmware update for your player. If your player is older and your movie is a recent release, you may not be able to watch it unless there is a firmware update. (If no updates are available, the manufacturer wants you to replace the unit.) Due to changes in copy protection and codecs, new movies can't be interpreted on an older player.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment with the model number of your blue-ray player for more support.

How to get unit to play without remote

You can probably use the front panel buttons (STOP PLAY OPEN/CLOSE etc) manually, the only thing you cannot do without the remote is access certain DVD menus, including subtitles/language/special features etc. You can always obtain and use a universal remote for basic menu functions later on if necessary.

To play a DVD movie without the remote, simply load your preferred disc, wait for the player to finish reading its contents, then to skip copyright warnings and/or the 'play movie' menu screen, press STOP, then PLAY, or simply press PLAY button where 'play movie' (or whatever function) is highlighted in the menu. These buttons should be on the front of the main unit. Doing this should encourage the player to detect the appropriate title (the movie) and play it (basic playback operation may not be possible with some DVD releases due to the numerous interactive menus and title pages, such as film trailers).

If basic manual operation is not completely possible with some DVD titles, consider a universal remote for your player if you have either lost your original, or the player was purchased/received without one. Such remotes are relatively inexpensive to purchase, and are available just about everywhere.

hi,
may be of upgrading problem or all blue ray disc won't play in all players. if a blue ray plays on a blue ray player may will not work in another one and vise versa. not all the discs some one.

If you are trying to play blue ray on this unit you are out of luck no amount of firmware will make it play something it is not capable of doing.

Player suddenly freezes

Try running a dvd cleaner through it first, before trying anything else (the type that looks like a DVD with a brush underneath).

The regular DVD might have been a fluke (scratches, rental?, burned dvd?)

Was there anything special about the new Blu-Ray Disc - what was the tile? On certain titles, you may need the firmware upgrade found at:

Dvd player, hd dvd movies

If this is just a regular DVD player, then no. You need an HD DVD player to play HD DVD discs. Now the HD DVD players should play regular DVD discs.
