Wanting to upgrade old Mastercook program to meld to new computer

I have an old Mastercook program 5.02 from Sierra copywright 1999. I have successfully been using it on my Dell Windows XP computer. We are currently in the market for a new computer, and I want to make sure that I can transfer all of my cookbook files and program to a new computer. I would gladly update to the newest Mastercook program but don't want to risk losing what I have.
What is the best way to go about this? What type of computer system do you recommend to accept my files, Windows XP or Vista?

I have an older version of Mastercook. I'm not sure of the version, my computer crashed and all my recipes are in there. I have my disk restored, but when I try to open Mastercook, particularly my cookbook it tells me it is not compatible with my version of windows? Any suggestions??? I am not beyond upgrading, but only if I know it is going to get my recipes back.

Please advise,

Thanks,

ValuSoft says that MasterCook 9.0 is only supported in Windows 98-XP. Specifically not Vista compatible. What's wrong with these people? I have Vista and didn't realize until tonight that some of MasterCook doesn't work right. So, buy XP.

Mastercook application has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available,

This happens when your computer begins to feel tired or have too many programs running. This isn't a big deal. Simply restart your computer, try not having too many programs running, and you should be ok.

I am running xp pro. since a windows update was loaded MC crashes when i try to click notes, category, etc - what is the solution?

Once you upgrade your operating system, some hardwares and some driver will be corrupted. Try to uninstall and reinstall again the program to resolve the problem. Otherwise, you program is not support your new operating system. Check also the OS require for your program. That is why is not good to just upgrade your system.

Mastercook 9.0 shuts down when I try to save in categories. help

It's due to a new security patch that Microsoft did. Go to the ValueSoft website for the patch:
http://www.valusoftsupport.com/KBArticle.asp?kbid=6196

You have to download the patch, unzip it into the MasterCook 'program' folder, then launch MasterCook. If you put the patch into the wrong spot (I initially put it just into the MasterCook folder_ it doesn't work, but you can drag and drop it into the right spot.

Go here on the Value Soft web site:
http://www.valusoftsupport.com/KBArticle.asp?kbid=6196

They have a patch to fix it, thankfully. I just spent about a half an hour with my brain exploding because I was having the same problem you're having! You have to download the patch, unzip it into the 'program' folder of the MasterCook folder, then launch MasterCook. If you don't get the patch unzipped into the right place, it doesn't work. Thankfully, if you put it in the wrong spot (as I did) you can just drag and drop it into the 'program' folder.

If you have the install media (cd or dvd) uninstall it and try a fresh install.
You may get it working by using system restore to turn your pc back to when it last worked.

When installing MC9 on my Vista machine I get the following "Error 1904.Module C:Program Files (x86)MasterCook 9ProgramMCWrap.dll failed to register. HRESULT -2147220473. Contact your support personnel."

Are you installing as administrator?

you could try:
Start->run
and type in the following line
regsvr32 "C:Program Files (x86)MasterCook 9ProgramMCWrap.dll"
or wherever the .dll path was
then try reinsalling.

When I installed it, I right clicked on the install file, and clicked RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

Cannot get MCOOK4 to work when transferred to a new computer. Are there hidden files I need to deal with? I remember something about the newer versions not being compatible with 4.0

How exactly did you "transfer" it to the new computer? Copy it to a storage medium (CD-R/RW, USB Stick, etc) and drag in onto the new computer? (to save your recipees?)

or

Did you take your MCOOK4 software and install in on your new computer and its not working?

(if you did "Drag" it to the new computer there are vital registry entries. (instructions on on when where and what to use for that program) it cant just operate by its root file. IF you do need to recover data off the old pc's recipees there are steps i can go over with you that i just typed out to another person respond and ill send them on :)
