SOURCE: New 14 seer split ruud heat pump makes very loud knocking noise

Well you may want to have a tech come out and check the freon level, but mostly when going into defrost, some units make alot of noise, the freon is reversed in the unit by way of the reversing valve, it makes a whooshing sound like freon is draining off, as far as the knocking noise, could be as I said in the beginning, might be low on freon, but it could be that, this particular unit does this, I have had units make some really strange noises in the past but functioned perfectly, hope this helped, please let us know, thanks again,

Is this a heat pump? Look in the thermostat. You should have something like the following.
Red wire to R terminal
Green wire to G terminal
Yellow wire to Y terminal
White wire to W or W1
Blue or Orange wire to the O or B terminal
Brown wire to C terminal.

Let me know what you have in the thermostat. The wire colors are not always the same.

does it not have a reveres switch at the bottom of the unit or if its the programmable type you must program both for heat and cold and the auto temp in the head will change when it needs to. However these are tricky to set up so if you want a step be step procedural let me know and I will give it to you plus there color codes. to boot.

The furnace wont turn on even though it says it is

not all digital thermostats are compatible with the manufacturers circuit control boards in the furnace. Hunter has had this problem several years ago. Other than that you may have miss wired the unit. usually the furnace is used as backup heat (during defrost) or emergency heat if your heat pump konks out. Are you switching to emergency heat for a furnace call?

Air and heat have both been running on Hunter 44155C

There should be a switch on the thermostat.
AC-OFF-HEAT
And another switch
FAN ON-OFF-AUTO
Normally, you just set it for heat or AC and set the fan for auto. If it isn't wired correctly, the switches won't make any difference. It will either run all of the time or not at all.

My Carrier 58dxc is making a loud noise

If your turning on heat and the unit is knocking and blowing cold air, your compressor is having problems in heat mode, could be reversing valve. A tech is needed in your situation. Getting the prob fixed right away will save you dollars..

Hunter 44360 problem

You probably have one of the wires reversed or have the options set incorrectly as to what type of heater you have.  Check your instructions here: http://www.hunterfanhq.com/tools/sales/hunter/preseason/images/owners/42710.pdf
