Play some sound file (song etc.) in your computer. If it sounds perfect then the problem is from the other side. ie. "the sound is all distorted" because the microphone is not properly handled by the person you are talking to or probably their mic is faulty.
is your microphonw working?
you may have to test that it works. it depends on what operating sytem you are using but you can usually do this from the control panel.
click start - click control panel -click hardware and sound-click manage sound devices-click record setting-try talking and watch to see if it detects your voice.if it doesnt you may have tto reinstall the driver. if it does work . then the issue might be with the im you are using . if you are using msn messager there is a help menu showing you hoe to test your mic.
Please reinstall your camera drivers. If you still face the same issue then reinstall skype. If the problem still exists then you will have to ask your friend to do the same. Before you tell him to do that make sure you test with any other person on your skype and check if he is facing the same issue or not.
In first place I know is something you are not doing right, Try to uninstall the web camera, when you install it again, use the Wizard to do it and there will be a test, to check if it is working properly, like if you can hear voices or not, or see their faces or not. Hope it helps.
Alright, so we know you have sound on your computer because you can hear them when they talk to you. We also know that there is an issue with the microphone side of things because when you record something you hear nothing.
Please go to Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices/Audio Tab.
Tell me if what you have under Default Device and Sound Recording Device are the same or if they're different. They should be the same. Let me know the results.
I totally uninstalled the software included with the webcam. I use Windows Movie Maker (included in Windows XP).
Be sure that after you plug in the cam and open Windows Movie maker that you select "Capture from video device" on the left had side. Your camera should come up in a setup window. If you are using the built in camera mic, select that in "audio device" window.
If you are using a mic connected to your PC, that option should be there, also.
In either case, after choosing the audio device, be sure the input level slider to the left is set high enough to pick up your voice.
Firstly check that the sound has been enabled in your IM in the options or properties on the menu, and that your other persons volume slider is up in the IM software.
Open up windows movie maker 2 and make a short movie as this will help with any possible problems you may have on line.
