Any wireless router should do just fine. Make sure to purchase a Wireless G or N, should be clearly stated on the box before purchase. They run about $40 for a ok one. Very easy to configure to.

Good luck with everything and I hope I could be of some help.

The SIM card is for a mobile data plan. If you go to say...AT&T and purchase a wireless data plan on the cellular network and insert the sim in the back of your laptop you will have internet access on the cellular network.

I cannot activate my Dell Wireless 5720 Sprint Mobile Broadband (EVD0 Rev-A) minicard. Can anyone help me?

Hi,

There are three places I can think of.

1. In the BIOS (Boot up and press F2 to go into BIOS, find the wireless on/off setting)
2. Function (Fn) key + F2 to toggle between wireless / no wireless
3. A physical toggle switch on the left of the laptop next to the PCMCIA slot, signified by a wireless symbol (antenna with radio waves around it).
Hope one of these helps. If none of the above, try installing the proper drivers from the Dell website and try again.
Cheers.

It's a mobil connection.
It enables you to stay connected to the internet if you are on the way with your laptop.
This are the spec. from Dell for the UK Internal Dell Wireless

It helps maximize your productivity while maintaining contact with clients, colleagues and family. Its high efficiency compact broadband design provides consistent throughput performance. Its GPS capability allows you to retrieve location data from GPS satellites, utilize GPS navigation and location-based applications. This product has been tested and validated on Dell systems. It is supported by Dell Technical Support when used with a Dell system.

Compatible With:
•Latitude E6500 / E6400 / E6400 ATG / E5400 / E4300 / E4200

It's quite cool and fast as described, I used the Vodafone Mobile connect HSDPA and I can confirm the good performance.
One serious issue are the costs, as you pay for the downloaded MB once you exceed your free data limit,
Not sure if you want to use it privately, then you need to monitor the amount of downloaded data closely otherwise you will be poor very soon :-). Check at the Vodafone Home page the costs.

NETGEAR Wireless G USB Adaptor Problems

I contacted Bigpond after my whole internet collapsed due to my amature abilities in fixing the internet. >_<" yet they fixed my internet connection by disconnecting my current (DLINK DIR-300) router from the network. hmmmm... the technician also confirmed that my current broadband modem (2WIRE 2071-A) isnt capable of supplying a shared connection to more than one computer!! she also directed me towards a modem with an inbuilt wifi router that "supposedly" is the best option right now. (2701HGV-W) I'm a bit shaky and the stupid NETGEAR adaptor problem still exists - im willing to buy the new modem if its guaranteed to abolish this problem and give me a better internet wise outlook - please any suggestions will be appreiciated =)

Usb broadband modem

Im not aware of any gadgets, but you can always use the USB stick on one laptop, share the internet connection, and connect the other laptop throught the shared connection.

That would require your laptops to be networked, either by a crossed cat cable or with regular switching or routing.

Adding a computer to wireless at home

1) Go to the computer that is connected directly to the Linksys router.

2) Open up Internet Explorer (or your favorite browser).

3) In the address bar, where it says "http://www...." clear out everything in there and type in the following numbers:

192.168.1.1

Press "enter" on your keyboard. This will open up a dialog box asking for your username and password. Try leaving the username blank, and type in "admin" for the password.

Now you're in a web page that controls your router. Look for the Wireless section, and make sure wireless is enabled. Check for wireless security as well, because you may need to enter a long number in your computer once it finds the router.

If you still need more help, feel free to ask.

About wi-fi

Windows XP has a built in wifi configuration tool, previous versions of windows dont have this feature. But if you were to buy a wireless card it comes with software for wireless to work on all versions of windows from 98 - XP most if not all new laptops have wifi built in & that will be able to share your broadband connection through the netgear router. You can configure the laptop & pc to share files & printer between each other, easy way of doing that is by using the wireless network setup wizard which can be found in Start -> All Prograns -> Accessories -> Communications -> Wireless Network Setup Wizard.
