Question about Compaq (388746-001) (  388746-001) Motherboard

2 Answers

Compaq Presario 4400us has no power when plugged in.

The initial problem when I tried to shut it down it appeared to go in Sleep mode but when I tried to wake it up, the lights would blink and it sounded like it was booting up but the monitor stayed blank. I wondered if it was the monitor so I hooked another one up to make sure and it did the same thing. After many attempts I finally disconnected it and used another tower. Later someone told me that maybe I just needed to unplug it to get it to reset. So I plugged it back in and now I get nothing. It's as if it's not even plugged in.
Any suggestions on what could be wrong and how costly it could be to fix?

If you're now getting absolutely no power (you don't hear any fans kick on or see any lights on the board) that almost always indicates your power supply is dead. the good thing however, is that you can get a cheap one for around $60-80 and if you know how to install it, you don't have to pay any extra.

hopefully this is the only thing wrong with it, your initial problem that you had power but no video makes me think you might also have a video card or motherboard problem, but power supply should be what you start with.

hope this helps!

Compaq Presario CQ50-103NR Notebook PC stuck in sleep mode

Try and perform a Hard Reset onto your laptop.

Performing Hard Reset
1. Turn off PC
2. Unplug both battery and ac adapter
3. Hold Down on the power button for 30 seconds
4. Plug everything back in and turn it on.

When you are back at your desktop screen, change the sleep mode and display settings to 1 minute to see if you can wake it back up.
If not, then load into your BIOS by pressing F10 during boot up. Once in BIOS, press the F9 key and select "load defaults". Once you load defaults, press to F10 key again to save changes and exit. After that, search the hp website using your product # on your laptop to see if there are any BIOS updated for your product.

Won't start but CPU fan vibrates but will not go full blast. Intermittant

It appears you have a faulty CPU fan and it is causing the CPU to overheat and shut down.
I suggest you replace the CPU fan. remove any dust from the heatsink and put new heatsink compound on the CPU/heatsink.

My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

Compaq presario CQ50 106CA. When powered on the power light and wireless light illuminates. The DVD sounds like it's initialising and fan runs, but screen blank. Ihave tried all basic fault finding...

Have you tried turning it on and selecting the function key combination for the screen? For example some screens use FN+F7, hold down the Function key and F7 to cycle between presentation modes.

unplug computer if necessary. Can also hold the power button in until it shuts off. Then you might want to to turn hibernation off in your power settings in your control panel.

Laptop won't start up

It sounds like your laptop is using it's external VGA adapter for its main display. Try holding down the Function (FN) on your keyboard located on the bottom left hand side and pressing F4 at the same time.

Sleep mode

Depends how it is set-up. If it is just in standby then simply moving the mouse or pushing a key should work. If it is in hibernate, then you have to push the power button for it to power back on.
