Question about Hotpoint Aquarius WD640 Front Load Washer/Dryer

1 Answer

My BWD 129 washer dryer is not spinning or draining

I noticed that during a normal D wash programme it stopped before the end of the cycle. The spin and wash buttons were flashing at the same time. There was also an unusual noise coming from the machine. I have tried stopping the cycle to drain, I hear a click as if it is about to start but nothing happens and the spin light remains on. I have a washing machine full of washing sitting in water.

I've had my washer/dryer 4 years now, and I keep having the same problem time and time again.

Before you attempt anything else switch the machine off from the power button on front of machine. Move cycle dial to "pump out" symbol. This should hopefully drain the water, if it works then move dial to "spin" symbol. After doing this try option (2) below:

Its either of 2 things.1) the pump needs replacing or 2) the filter is blocked.

Try checking the main filter and see if there is any obstruction eg. socks, laces etc. If so then keep fingers crossed that the problem is due to blockage. If there is no blockage then i'm sorry to say that your pump may need replacement. However, the good news is that the pump is not very expensive. I replace my pump two years ago, and i've experienced the same problem again. This time there is no blockage so I feel is now time for another new pump. I regret to say that I will not purchase another Hotpoint appliance ever again as I cannot afford to replace pumps every couple of years.

I have a similar problem - washer wouldn't spin or drain. The problem with my Kenmore 90 series is that the lid switch needs to be replaced. It's a safety feature. During normal operation when the washer is spinning or draining - and you open the lid - the lid switch sensor knows that the lid is opened and then "stops" the machine. A new lid switch needs to be installed. I have picked up the part, but am still trying to figure out "how" to get inside of the washer. The only difference between what you describe, and my problem, is that there is no "unusual" noise coming from the machine. Hope this helps lead you in a good direction. Another good site is Bob Villa's site.

I have a Maytag Quiet Series 200. In the beginning of the cycle, it makes a weird 'whirrrring' noise that goes away right after the first wash cycle. It's getting water. It's very noticable and I worry...

I have a quiet series 300 and it does that, too. I think it just balances the load before washing and is normal. I found this in the manual:
Normal Sounds
Your new washer may make sounds your old one didn

Hotpoint bwd 129 won't go through cycle stops on spin

If you click the timer forward can you get the spin to come on? If so your timer is faulty. Is it only on the spin cycle that washer doesnt work?Is there possibly a humm from the machine at spin? (assuming you have clothes inside) If there is a hum, you very possibly have a faulty motor capacitor.

Wash.machine won't spin

Door lock switch # 131763245 if everything else is working fine this should fix the problem. It shorts out between the motor control board and the door lock from emptying the cycle and spinning. Try running your machine on drain/spin and see if it drains and tosses clothes and then stops with no spin. If that happens then it is your door lock.switch. Easy to replace by yourself and costs $65.00
