Question about Thetford Norcold DE0051 Refrigerator

Digital readout pad keeps cycleing

I have a Norcold that the digital display pad just keeps hunting up and down the scale from AC-LP- ECT. It won't even let me set the temp. Is the Digial read out board shot. It was new two years ago. 400.00 dollars.

The fridge had been working just fine. Went to turn it on and it started searching for a power source like it always does but it just kept searching. The power is on. The light is on in the fridge. The freizer seems to be cooling. But it will not stop at AC or LP. When I try to set the temp it runs up and down the numbers and will also not stop at any set number. At one point I herd the gas burner kick on then off. But it never stops searching. The mother board on the front of the fridge has been replaced about three years ago. I tryed turning off the AC and seeing if it would stop on LP. It did not.

I still think it is searching for a power source. I have a parts breakdown and a troubleshooting guide I can copy and e-mail to you.
Send me an e-mail and I will e-mail the info back to you.

I shut down the fridge. Not getting any power to it now. I have checked breakers and fuses. There is power to 110 outlet where it plugs in. No power to gas valve. What do you think the problem is?

Your Norcold refrigerator is powered by 12V DC, not 110V AC. You need to check input power at the power board. If the fuses are good and you have good 12V to the refrigerator, check to see if you are getting 12V past the 5amp fuse on the board. If not, you may have a bad board. I'd be calling Norcold & asking if they are aware of this problem, the very least they can do is put you on to a reputable repair man to fix it.

Fridge will not work on AC mode. AC is present into fridge.

There should be a code appearing on the display. If you are not getting any 12V to the Fridge your fridge will not function. You may also want to check for any blown fuses inside the electronic board assembly. ">

Norcold model 1200LRIM. Unable to select AC or LP mode. Auto is only option. Fridge frequently quits in Auto mode. No error codes. Display just goes blank. Battery connections are good; voltage is good....

Try to unplug it from the battery a few hours and then plug it back in and see if you are now able to select the AC or LP mode. There has been a recall on the 1200LRIM, The defect is a potential cooling unit leak caused during AC electric mode operation. Click on the link below to read more:

While working on ac switches to lp with no warning.

If the incoming AC voltage falls too low, it does this to maintain cooling capacity. It will also do the same thing if voltage gets too high.

It might also indicate that the control board is detecting a problem with the heater element. Are there any faults or check lights being displayed after it switches to gas?

Norcold N1095 model stopped working during very cold weather spell. No defaults codes at all showing--just will not cool down. AC and LP both work fine. Refrig just stopped cooling. Contacted norcold...

I have the same problem with my extra fridge in the garage. It has to do with the oil used as a refrigerant in newer models. The cold temprature thickens the oil and it stops cooling. Nothing you can do about it other than opening the door to the fridge to warm the insides up. It works for me. And thank god it's only when it gets very cold outside that this happens. Ps...my garage is insulated and drywalled and it still occors during cold spells.

Norcold n1095 not working on AC...works fine on LP

Yes. LP is direct heat to the exchanger. The thermistor operates through the control to the electric heater.
