The problem here will require replacement parts. Welcomejee had posted one of the more common causes of this, but in reality, if the sled gears are clear and in good shape, the motor itself is the likely defective part. This is not a repalceable part from Teac. They will only provide the optical block which includes both the sled motor mechanism and the optics. This will make the parts cost more than the replacement in all probability.

One thing you can try to prive this is to alter the position of the sled in relation to the motor position. Carefully move the sled along its path without moving the motor. WIthout seeing the specific mechanism inside your unit, I can't be any more descriptive, but the gaol here is to determine whether there is a problem with the motor or the mechanism. Because of how the motor is used, a slight "dead spot" inside the motor can cause the problem you are seeing. Basically it works like this:

The motor moves to a "center" position for the track and the lens itself is "tilted" to read the track behind, through the ahead of the exact motor position. When reading ahead, the electronics again tell the motor to move so that the "ahead" position becomes the "behind" position for the next read cycle. This means that the motor only moves a small bit. If a dead spot is hit, additional voltage is required to actually move the motor. When this happens, the motor can overshoot its target. The result of this overshoot is seen as skipping.

Hope this helps a bit.

That could be some dirt on the laser head lenses.
Try cleaning the lens. If you can see the lens when you open it to put a cd in, you can clean the lens yourself with a q-tip. Use a very small amount of alcohol or windex, just enough to make the tip of the q-tip moist, and rub it on the glass lens in a circular motion. then use the dry end of the q-tip to dry it off. You can then try another cd and see if it plays good. If so, you are good to go, if not, you probably need a new laser pick up. If it needs a new laser, you may want to just buy a new boombox. The repair will most likely cost as much or more than a new boombox would.
----------the emitting diode is not shiffting right..it might need some cleaning of its track..open it and check it out.

• Clean the disc.
• Check disc for warping, scratches, or
other damage.
• Check if something is causing the
system to vibrate. If so, move the
system.
• Make sure the speakers are at least 3
feet away or on a different surface
from the main unit.

Hi,
Please take off top cover and check Sled mechanism of Laser block, it has gears and grooves. I'm sure there would some dirt that obstructs smooth sled drive. Clean grooves and gear and then try.
Below is an image of optical block and sled mechanism is marked just to give you an idea.

It doesn't matter which compartment, they rotate over to the read laser. The problem is in the chip that changes tracks. This is a warranty service problem.

I know that's the last you expect from a Fix It site, but sorry, you've got a bad chip.

Expensive or not, the problem is in the chip not the gears or where the disc is in the tray. The tray just rotates into the the laser read component. The fact that each and ever CD is skipping the same tracks indicates the EEPROM (software written to a chip) is faulty. You cannot address this. I cannot address this, it needs a new chip. So, bad news is bad news. Sorry. We do have to give it now and then.

Check out the connections first and also check the cd holder is it in correct position and also the scratches on the cd this can misread and lead to jumps.

After 16 months our PD-D2610 CD changer has started misbehaving. Some of the 5 positions work fine but positions 1 & 4 almost never work.

I read enough comments from unhappy TEAC owners with similar problems to learn that the drive motor is to blame and that repair sounds like sending good money after bad. I'm going to buy a Sony changer.
