If you go to the right margin, does the margin release key work there? (Trying to see if keyboard is working)

If it doesn't work on the right as well as the left, you need the keyboard replaced.

If it does work on the right, you need to clean and oil the shafts that the carriage moves left and right on.

If this model has a battery pack inside the ribbon area, take them out for 10 minutes with the machine off....then turn back on...(batteries store margins and tabs settings)

The problem may be that the carrier is binding on return, put some light lube (WD40 works well) on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on.

Change left margin on IBM wheelwriter 2000

To change the left margin, hit the return button which will take you to the left margin. Hit the margin release lever (mar rel) and then the backspace button to go farther to the left and stop where you want the margin to be. Hit left margin and that is where it will then be set.

My IBM selectric II typewriter carriage stuck in right margin

Sounds like the return lever arm is not putting enough pressure on the return clutch, or the clutch is slipping. The exp key uses the same clutch but the pressure comes from your finger. Theres no way you can fix this yourself. Get an IBM mechanic.

IBM Selectric II-return goes past the margin stop

The margin release mech. is probably gummy and allowing returns to go past the margin. If thi is a dual pitch machine see if the pitch selector lever will move easily. If not use some WD40 on the margin rack.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 (Setting the Margin back to 5"

Sounds like you don't know how to set l. margin or you have some debris in the typewriter. Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand, if so turn it on 7 return to l. margin press mar rel key, backspace to where you want the margin and press l. margin key.

hope this helps

MARGINS

Move carrier to left margin press margin release, top left hand side of keyboard, back space to desired position and press L Margin key.  Margins will reset to default if batteries are dead.   Right margin simply space to whever you want the margin and press R Margin.
