Your switched ignition lead is hooked to a constant voltage wire.
You need to find a source wire that is only given power with the key in the on position.
One wire (yellow) on radio goes to a power wire with +12V constant power (regardless of key position)
The other wire (RED) on radio will need to be attached to a Power wire whose supply is only +12V when the ignition is enabled.
Since you are using a wire harness, you just need to reverse the 2 wires as they currently are installed.

Hope this solves one problem anyway.

the wires being reversed on the harness also may not activate an internal relay allowing the steering wheel functions to operate.Switch the 2 power wires, and re-try.

If the steering wheel controls still fail to operate properly, your module may be defective.

Post your results.

I have purchased a car with a JVC KD-R206 Car CD Tuner fitted but have no owners manual. Could you assist please?

http://books.jvc.com/booklist.asp?Model=KDR
Here's the link to JVC's customer support page for KDR receivers the closest I saw was the 200 and the 208. Most Manufacturer's will make several different model #'s of the same radio depending on where it's sold. Open the pdf's and see which one looks like your's. it may even be listed on the pdf front page. Hope this helps

We installed a jvc kd-s26 into my 2002 trailblazer, I believe correctly but the radio will only turn on for about 15 seconds and then powers off.... I do not understand

There are two power wires for the receiver. One will light the clock and eject the CD when the eject button is pressed, but will only stay on a few seconds and this is connected to a battery source. The other power wire actually turns on the radio and is connected to a source controlled by the igition switch Check the wiring diagram to see if you have both wires connected correctly.

My jvc kd-lhx505 will no longer read cds.... works fine other than that

Try cleaning the cd player with a lens cleaning kit like this one. CLICK HERE That hopefully will correct the problem. If that does not work you could try removing the negative power lead on your car battery for a few minutes which will reset the whole radio. That may clear up any problem with the radio. If those two suggestions fail then radio replacement may be in order. Good Luck
