Question about Garmin Nuvi 680 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Power cord doen not seem to recharge Garmin Nuve 680 in car.

Though there is battery charge as indicated on the devise - suddenly - when plugged into car - Garmin goes dead within a minute. Needs to be turned on again - and then goes dead again!

Works fine when plugged in at home or on battery alone - but not in car!!!

Your question was posted under the Nuvi 680 GPS, so I am assuming this is the model that you have.

On the main screen, you will see a green battery status indicator in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. The battery is divided into 4 parts. Each part represents 1/4 power. So if you have one green bar, that indicates that the battery has 1/4 of power left. If there are 3 bars, that indicates that there is 3/4 power left.

When the unit is charging, you will see a yellow lightning bolt appear over the green battery status icon.

When the lightning bolt is not there, this means the unit is running off of the battery.

When leaving the unit to charge, press and hold the power button until you see that the screen says Charging Battery. A few seconds later, the screen will go blank to save energy.

Pressing the screen again later will either say Charging Battery or Battery Charge Complete.

Norelco shaver sudden power loss

I hope you are observing the following:- Recharging only when the batteries are almost completely empty. Continuously recharging or continuously using as a corded razor will reduce life of batteries Charge only when the indicator in charge meter starts blinking. It appears that your batteries are gone. Hope you have replaced the batteries with the new ones. Use a good brand

My Garmin 680 doesn't seem to hold a charge. How do I replace the battery?

Replacing the nuvi 680's battery is actually not all that hard as this video demonstrates:

The company that produced the video sells a kit which includes the battery and tools necessary to do this yourself if you'd like. See: http://www.newpower99.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GARMIN+NUVI+680&Show=ExtInfo I swapped the battery of a friend's dying GPS using the aforementioned kit and all went well. His nuvi 680 is back up and running smoothly.

I keep getting low battery message while my 750 is plugged in?

I'm still not 100% clear about why this is an issue (I'm having the same problem with my nüvi 760), but . . .

If you connect the Garmin to a power source via the USB port and leave it for a good long time (overnight) it should recharge even though the unit had been refusing to accept a charge through the normal power cord.

Palm Tungsten E2 won't work after power cord is removed.

The traditional steps for resetting charging problems are:
1) press reset /while/ the power cord is plugged in
2) unplugging the battery for about 30 seconds, then plugging it back in

You have done #2, but I do not know if you have done #1. Try it, then try to recharge again. If that fails then you probably need a new battery. I have found them on eBay before.
