'File error' message on samsung L200 camera when viewing a photo

When trying to view my photos, one of the images just comes up 'file error!' and wont show the picture.
This is a brand new camera and this just happened after I put my SD card into a machine at boots to get the photos printed. Could this be something to do with the boots machine.

I have the same problem but mine will not show up on the computer or the camera.

  • csmith143 Feb 05, 2009

Yes, I have the same problem too.  When viewing my photos, I will get to a point where the camera pauses, the green light in the corner flashes rapidly and then the file error comes up and shuts the camera down.  This is a new camera as well.

I just bought this camera after Christmas and have the same problem. About 1 in every 10 shots comes up as file error. It does not show on the computer either. It *says* it's still a jpeg file. If the camera converted it to another file, what file so I can figure out how to open that type?

  • maryann259 Feb 21, 2009

But how does one stop the flashing status lamp light. Once the image is viewed, it freezes and then it shows file error.

  • jimettrix Feb 25, 2009

Someone on this website in another questions suggested it was the difference between a SD memory card and an SDHC card. But my card IS an SD card and still gives me an error from about 1 in ten pictures. I was in Washington last weekend and finally started taking two shots of everything.

So if it's not the SD vs SDHC card.... and not taking the memory card in and out (I rarely even remove mine)......????

    FILE ERROR.

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2009

I still don't know how to view the pictures because they don't appear on my computer either???can anyone help??

  • iNate36 Mar 21, 2009

We have two of these cameras, completely identical to one another, and even when I switch the memory cards back and forth the "File Error!" images are never viewable, and the problem happens with both cameras. The images that error out are also not viewable on the computer, and when you try to browse through the images on the camera's display, the camera freezes up upon encountering the corrupted images.
    Anyone have any ideas yet?

I have the exact same problem. When trying to view my pictures the green light begins to flash rapidly and then freezes. It won't allow me to turn the camera off so I have to remove the battery and start all over again. This is my second camera and they both have done the same thing. Does anyone know how this problem can be fixed?

file error keeps popping up i deleted all my pics but it still happening

  • jan3110863 May 04, 2009

The first time I used my camera and went to view the pictures taken, "file error" popped up on the screen and the screen would not advance until I pressed the advance to next picture several times. It did it again recently. This is very frustrating as my camera is new and was expensive. jan3110863@aol.com

about every tenth picture on this camera gets the 'file error' message when i try to review it. also, while it is frozen up on one of these particular images (this lasts about 1 - 5 minutes) it tends to drain the battery rapidly.

Possible solution:

I had/have the same problem using L200 and SDHC memory card, called Samsung. Can't view certain pictures on camera or computer, camera freezes when viewing those certain pictures, green light flashing.

Samsung support told me that I needed to copy my (good) pictures to a computer first because a memory format will erase everything. Then format (menu->settings->format->yes) my memory card. Tried this just now and took some new pictures, so far so good.

The machine changed the file format into a form that the camera can not read. This may have been caused by taking the memory card out of the machine to soon. It should be visible on a computer however.

I need more detail about what you are doing though. Are you removing the card and placing it in the computer or are you connecting your camera to the PC using a USB cable? If it is just the photos you have on the card that are messed up, try to copy the photos you can see to the PC. Try to transfer them all to a folder on the PC. You may be able to recover your photos with software. You can download "Recuva" free at this site: http://www.filehippo.com/download_recuva .This software can recover corrupted files. You should have the memory card in a USB adapter connected to the PC for this software to work well. Your card probably needs to be formatted, using the menu on your camera, after you have recovered your photos. That is the most common cause of file errors in cameras. It is good practice to format you memory card fairly often after the photos have been removed. If you have a second card, try taking three or four pictures on it and see if you can access them okay. That would prove there is nothing wrong with your camera.

Problem with the Olympus FE-115 Digital Camera my

Unfortunately, the picture error message means that the image been modified such that the camera can't read it. It is possible that the camera thinks the picture was taken by another camera. Since the picture is still good when you check it with the computer, it hasn't been damaged. Archive the picture and make sure to back it up after it goes on the computer. (If the computer couldn't view it, then you'd need some sort of file recovery software and might not get the entire image back.)

Manuals for the FE-115 are available from the Olympus site: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_archived_product_details.asp?id=1227&fl=8 .

I hope this helps.

I am unable to see all the photos on the camera after viewing the memory card on a laptop. They are still present on the card (85 files) but on the camera I get the message "File contains no image data"...

I can't tell you exactly why all your photos became unavailable on your camera, but I do know that many digital cameras as well as handheld media devices (zunes, sansas etc) are very fussy when it come to the images stored on them. They write index files describing what is stored on them, and yes, if your alter any files using a computer after they were imported and indexed, they will disappear from view on the device. I am surprised that all your photos no longer show up, not just the ones whose orientation was altered.

I recommend moving your photos to your laptop and using your camera to reformat your memory card. I am unaware of any way to coax them into being viewed on your camera once they have been shunned.

File error Sony Cybershot DSC-W120

The LCD screen may display a FILE ERROR message when trying to view a still image on the Camera if the image was rotated, modified and overwritten using editing software on a Computer.

To play images you have taken on the Camera, it is recommended that you do not make any changes to the original image files.

It seems that the images are rotated or modified in the Computer.

When looking back at photos taken, the camera freezes and flashes up 'file error'. I have tried browsing slowly as well as quickly and it still happens, it is really infuriating!

Displays file error message when trying to playback still images and video footage

Did you take the card and insert into computer/device to view photos?

Viewing photos can alter the format of the photos thereby preventing your camera from reading them.

I viewed some photos and rotated a few photos and my camera no longer recognizes the format.

good luck

File errors, distorted photos.. I hate the Samsung L100!!

regarding the use, you have to check if you are using the right memory card for your camera.

you can only use 2GB sd card or 4gb sdhc card.

try this and if you still have an error message. you better send the camera for service.
