Does it show up in the Device Manager? Does it say it is working correctly? If it says it doesn't have a driver, the manufacture's website should have it. Although not showing up in the BIOS if it used too doesn't sound good. Try reseating the WiFi card again. If that doesn't work, it sounds like it is dead.

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.

I have bought a Broadcom BCM4318 miniPCI wireless card and put IT in a Compaq Presario M2000 lap top. All i get is 104 -Unsupported wireless network device detected. System Halted despite several bios...

what makes you think this card works on any m2000
surely not in the parts surfer.

the BIOS must know what it is , and dont.
then if that happened ok, then the unstated OS will fail next
as i bet the drivers from HP on your unstated OS do not support this device. did you look first?
why not ask HP how to do this, ask them first what works.
hint: we are not HP.
hint2: hp retired this PC zero support.
ok?
hint 3: if you flash BIOS you will brick that PC, without HP direct support from there forum, (see links below)

what m2000 there are like 50 of them , all with different sub model p/n codes on the service tag

http://partsurfer.hp.com/WSearch.aspx?Wchar=Y&searchText=m2000#

i look at the page on m2000 , its not a 2010 why mix them>?
the 2000 is PV855AV
that mobo uses

Mini PCI (Broadcomm) 802.11b/g wireless LAN card with Bluetooth
NO LONGER SUPPLIED
hp pn:

394254-001

here is the correct card for PV855av pc.
the HP site on drivers is dead, for this M2000 series.
so getting driver that work can be hard.
but no OS stated by you so can just give you them.

m2000-y2chovyjvaphn3zziqe4qs3k-1-0.jpg
last and best
why not ask REAL HP>?
ask them what card will work in your PC
and AVOID hackers sites with hacked up BIOS
with hacked in virus in the bios loaders.... avoid that.
or you will get BRICKED.

Wireless button, won't come on. Stays the orange color.

This could be caused by one of the following issues:

WLAN is disabled in the BIOS. Check BIOS that WLAN is enabled. Update to the latest BIOS if not already:

Update Wireless drivers to the latest.

Update HP Wireless Assistant, try turning it on/off via Wireless Assistant
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-76368-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4062&product=3934480&sw_lang=

If all these do not work, contact HP to replace switch cover which controls the wireless button, power button, mute, volume. Does the mute and volume buttons work?

WIRELESS NETWORK BUTTON FIX FROM RED TO BLUE. 1. Press wireless button. 2. left click the dialog box in the bottom right corner it will prob say wireless disabled etc. 3. HP wireless assist box should open if so its working and you should click on properties. 4. check all unchecked boxes and press apply or ok etc.5 you should now see in the top right corner of the HP wireless assist box an option to turn on wifi press it. 6. Try the wifi button it should work! If not sorry it did for me.

Presario f730us wireless light stays red and in device manger has nothing about wireless

This is a flaw with Nforce chipset and Broadcom wireless cards. But getting HP to admit to it is another story. Every F700 used on a daily basis will have their wireless fail. Here are the solutions to try and resolve this...
1. Buy and install new wireless card ( has worked for me numerous times. Cheapest solution, $25 BUT may not work)
2. Buy a USB wireless adapter (little bit more money but will definitely get you up and running $50)
3. Replace motherboard (refabed cost around $120 or so. There is a reason so many of these go bad... Thank you hp!)

Other than that don't believe it s software/virus problem as it is a pure bad hardware issue. I am still a fan of Compaq laptops.. Just have to ignore this little bubmle on some engineers work station :)

WIFI not working

This is a common problem on hp laptops in the 2000 and 6000 series. It is caused by a manufacturing defect on the mainboard. You may try and update your BIOS and see if it fixs it.. If it doesnt you will have to contact HP and they will give you a free repair if you still are under warranty (the warranty is 2 years here in Denmark)

BIOS update:

Internal Wireless adapter failed

Your wireless zero configuration being manipulated by the add-on service of manufacturer software. first you can manually turn in the Wireless Zero Configuration by typing services.msc on run menu. After you run the services you will see Wireless Zero configuration please enable and start it with the given option.

Next you can open the Wireless Network Connection option, uncheck the add on protocols, such as AEGIS and WLAN protocol. after restart computer should work with wireless without problem.

Please post if you need further assistance.

Good Luck

Broadcom hp dv6000

First do right click on you my computer icon and choose properties ->hardware->device manager->network adapters and expand it, see your broadcom wireless is there or not, if not obtain a diver file for your model from HP support site and run it so that your wireless adapter will start working and enable the wireless on and see its working.
