'on how to light piolet on 18000 btu big buddy heater

You should be able to light a pilot with a lighter or match if the built-in igniter won't do it.
Make sure you set the ON/PILOT/OFF button to the PILOT setting, push in on the button while lighting the pilot light (flame), and keep holding the button down for about 20-30 seconds. Then the pilot flame should stay lit.

Burner goes out after lighting and holding button for 30-45 secs.

It is usually the tipover sensor that is bad, I have had 2 of them bad right of the box. It is a black plastic peice, under the metal screen near the round know. It has 2 wires running to it, it is a saftey to shut off the heater if it tips over. to test it touch the two wires together, then try to light it, should lit no problem. Then contact manufacture for a replacement for it.
If this has been helpful, please rate the new guy :)

Pilot light wont stay lit

If this is a new item then you will need to let the gas run alittle bit longer. If this is a used item then it sounds like you are going to need to replace the flame sensor. You may have to even do it on the new item. But usually for the first start you willl need to hold the pilot down for about 1 minute to really let things heat up in there then when you release all will work

Torpedo heater wont stay lit.

Do you have the serial number or the manufacture date? There are some design changes and I would need to know the year of manufacture to assist accurately. Usually it is a relay or the thermocouple connection that will affect the unit staying lit.

Reddy heater rlp 100

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or the flame is not hitting the thermocouple. It may take 30 seconds of flame or longer to keep it on. Check for a loose connection at the gas valve.

Either a 30# or 110# tank of propane will work. You might even get by for a short period of time using a gas grill tank, depending upon how cold it is outside.
