Question about Acer Aspire 5315 Notebook

1 Answer

I just purchased an Acer laptop. It will playback CD audio just fine. However, when I load a DVD, video will play fine but no audio. I am attempting to play it through Windows Media player. I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps that I know of.

Why won't my Acer laptop play compact discs?

Most units are designed to "autoplay" audio CDs when they are inserted. When they fail to do so, it could be because the CD is dirty or scratched and was bot recognized, the media player that you are using to play the CD was not in a state that it could autoplay the CD, or there could be a problem with the Disk drive or PC itself. Whenever a CD fails to play upon insertion, go to the "My Computer" icon (win7 or below) and see if the CD/DVD drive shows a disk inserted. If so, clicking on the drive will often start the playback.

User manual for acer aspire E1

There are 44 models of the aspire E1. 35 of them have a dvd writer, which will play your dvd's. It is started by the software you use. If you want to burn a disc your burning software withll recgonise the drive. Same with playback software if you are just wanting to watch a movie. I't should have software, or a trial version, of a burning program on it when purchased. Maybe playback software too. You need to review your applications and see what you have and learn what each one does to find it. good luck.

setting in your DVD burner utility
look for options or advanced settings on the utility that burns the DVD or CD's i e nero or roxio etc.
Usually you can format a DVD CD burner to make it playable on all devices

DVD CD audio is garbled and sounds "skippy" o garbled

DvD playback can be a result of dirty lens on your dvd player and bad driver updates from your dvd program vendor. if this is the problem try to check back when you think it started and see if you had any driver updates or software update. use a good dvd cleaner and then check the results.
You can look in the event veiw. Go to my computer right click and than click manage you will see the event viewer and it will show you any conflicks that have happen. if it is a driver conflick remove the driver and it should fix your problem.

E-System laptop with slow dvd playback

This can be a bit of a tricky one to figure out. My initial response would be that you have another program or process that is causing your computer to play 'choppy' video. When you have a newer computer that was recently working just fine and now all of the sudden the video is choppy, it is usually due to another process using CPU cycles that are so important to video playback.

Start playing a DVD, but don't go to full-screen mode. Open the Task Manager. Right-Click on the task bar and select Task Manager. Click on the 'Processes' tab. There is a column labeled CPU, click on the heading 'CPU' twice. This will order the processes in order from highest CPU usage to lowest. The top two processes will most likely be your DVD player and the process that is causing your choppy playback. If the offending process isn't essential (i.e. anti-virus), then click on said process and then click the "End Process" button.

Hope this helps.

Have you tried viewing in a different software, as i found that acer use a form of Power DVD as their standard movie player which comes installed with the system. Try viewing in media player for example.
