Tuning digital channels

My TV will not tune in any digital channels. It goes as far as 40% then hangs with a searching logo showing. I believe it needs the software upgrading but there are no downloads scheduled after September 2008. Any help appreciated.

This is answered on the sony support pages see
http://www.sony.co.uk/section/contact
and then enter 're-tune digital channels' in the 'search by keyword' box for the explanation.
It basically needs a software upgrade which will be downloaded free if you've still got a freeview channel - but if you've lost them all you'll need help - anyway it's all explained by sony.

How do I tune TV channels on my Sharp CX48G4 TV without a remote control? There is no tuning / settings panel on the TV itself which is very strange.

press the preset button on the front panel once then (TV should be on) the on the screen there should be words the likes of (Auto VHF 1 60.00mhz) now the Auto stands for auto tuning VHF stands for its frequency where its going to search the 1 stands for the channel where its going to start with 60.00mghz stands for the lowest signal to which its going to start now that you have understood all that just press the volume up button then it will automaticly locate all your working channels leave till it stops for when does it will start from channel 1 to which I believe that you be able to see the channel working so press the up button on the channel button to check the rest of your channels hope this will solve your problem!

Only goes up to Channel 19.

Go into the TV's setup screen and make sure its tuning mode is set for "cable" (may say "CATV"). I'm not familiar with this set so I don't know exactly what the screen will say, but there should be some reference to channel setup, TV setup, tuning band, etc. It's probably set on "AIR" now.

Normally, when set for off-air reception, the set works properly for channels 2 through 13, and 14 up don't tune properly. Since you're getting channels up to 19, there may in fact be some kind of tuner problem. If the TV is already set for cable tuning, you may have found why the former owner was freecycling it. But check that tuning mode.

Problem with tuning digital channel

I would believe from what you said, you have solved your problem. You will need a UHF antenna to receive the signal. Walmart or Radio Shack has a great amplified antenna that will work for you.

Digital tuning is failing

The retuning process is as follows:

  2. Press the BLUE button to display the MAIN MENU.
  3. Press the UP or DOWN buttons to highlight AUTO TUNING then press the OK button to display the AUTO TUNING MENU.
  4. Press the RED button to start the auto tuning process for all available digital channels.
  5. Wait for the process to complete.

I have a poloriad flat lcd tv now channel 40 is the only channel where their is not sound all other channels have sound. We have cable and our other tv on channel 40 is ok but on the poloriad no sound on...

Could be the tuning of channel . Try doing an automatic channel search again and see if it will tune in more closely and get the full audio level.

Also, you might try a hard reset of the internal soft codes by unplugging it overnight to allow all the internal emproms to reset.

If the cable is passing through a vcr, could be the vcr at fault, too.

Technika tv lcd 19-907 tuning in to sky in bedroom.

Hi i had the same problem but i have sorted mine now. What i was doing wrong was i wasnt tuning in the analoge channels only the freeview digital ones. To do this you need to first turn your tv on. Then press the "source" button, this will bring up a little menu at the top left hand side. When this menu comes up press the "Programme +" button (the one that you use for changing channels near the volume button) press this until you get up to "TV", when T.V is highlighted just wait 3 secs and it will switch over. You will probably get a blue screen with a no signal message (you are now on analogue) when you get this blue screen press the "tune" button. It will automatically start tuning in all of your channels, at first they will be fuzzy but as it works they will become clearer. Your sky channel will also be tuned in. When mine tuned in it didnt tune them in on the right numbers though, bbc2 was on number 1 etc. If you ever need to use a playstation or something it goes into the scart connection at the side of the t.v and you need to press "source" and go up to "scart". To get back onto the digital channels just press "dtv/dvd".
hope i helped!
