Question about Hobart D300 Stand Mixer

1 Answer

Beater mechanizim runs very slow and will not change speed

Mixer was running fine making pizza dough and then it just stopped with the dough in the bowl. Removed the bowl and tried to start it back up and it runs very slow, you can grab it and stop it with your hand. No matter what the speed setting is on it doesn't change.
Can someone walk me through fixing it? Possibly have a schematic?

i had the same problem as you describe, i was making pizza dough, it didnt make a sound, then just stopped. i turned it off and turned it back on and it was so slow you could stop it by hand. of course, the hobart repair man , which the closest is like 2 hours away, wants 400.00 a half hour plus travel time to come fix it. makes me wonder what i am doing making pizzas for a living, but anyway, i will never in my life buy another hobart product for as long as i live. if anyone has a solution for this that my husband can repair himself, it would be greatly appreciate.

First time using bread dough beater It was hard to put on and am unable to remove

Make sure your Beater can slip in and out of the Beater Shaft

easily. Do not force the beater onto the Shaft if the shaft is bent.

If it cannot be removed easily by hand, use a soft rubber mallet

(not a steel hammer) to slightly tap the beater so it can be moved

up and down the shaft or from side to side. Then you can easily

turn the beater left and remove it from the shaft.

From Kitchenaid Manual:

To Attach Flat Beater, Wire Whip, or Dough Hook

1. Turn speed control to OFF.

2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.

3. Tilt motor head back.

4. Slip beater onto beater shaft and press upward

as far as possible.

5. Turn beater to right, hooking beater over pin on shaft.

6. Plug into a grounded 3 prong outlet.

To Remove Flat Beater, Wire Whip or Dough Hook

1. Turn speed control to OFF.

2. Unplug stand mixer or disconnect power.

3. Tilt motor head back.

4. Press beater upward as far as possible and turn left.
5. Pull beater from beater shaft.

Professional 600 - makes loud noise when mixing, often stops as it blends 8 cups of bread flour and "needs a break", flat beater seems to get caught on bottom of bowl - this mixer is 1 yr. old!!

Several things:

The Professional 600 has a metal gear housing with a metal gearing. Because of this, the Professional 600 will generally run louder than other stand mixers that may have a nylon/metal mesh gearing.

How long is the bread dough being mixed for? Kitchenaid stand mixers must be used on speed 2 for bread doughs, using the spiral shaped dough hook, and mixing for no longer than 7 minutes.

If the flat beater is getting caught on the bottom of the bowl, pleasure assure the bowl is being seated correctly. You will place the bowl on the mixer arms on the left and right hand side. You will also want to take your fingers along the back of the bowl, where it butts up against the base of the mixer, and press downward. You will hear an audible click as the bowl falls into a spring latch and allows the bowl to sit flush and secure. If this is not being done, the flat beater may strike the bottom of the bowl.

If this was not the cause of the problem, please consult your Use and Care Guide about the beater to bowl adjustment. This is an easy adjustment made with a flat head screwdriver that can quickly correct the problem of a flat beater hitting the bottom of the bowl.

Motor stalls out when mixing you unplug and plug back in and it will run had the motor checked out and was fine

You are overloading the bowl or you bought this used and when they wore the motor out, you ended up with it. Batters & icings 75% bowl capacity, doughs 65% bowl capacity. If you live by this, you will buy 1 mixer & never have to replace it, especially if it's a Hobart.

Hobart a200 mixer won't mix

The bowl holds 20 quarts--are you overloading the mix? This mixer is not made for medium/heavy pizza dough.Depending on the pounds of dough, water and other ingredients will affect the mixer in some way.

Blakeslee CC-30 Planetary Mixer & dough hook not mixing correctly

it sounds like you may have a sheared key on one of the shafts.with no product in the mixer will it run in any other speeds?when mixing pizza dough you should only use 1st gear.if it does run in other speeds you have a sheared key or broken shaft,if it doesnt run in any speeds drop the planetary and check the key on that shaft.

Beater jams

You are going to DESTROY YOUR MIXER by kneading dough with the flat beater. Read the directions. They spell it out in big letters. Only use the dough hook for dough; only use speed 2.
If the mixer generated enough torque to knead dough with the flat beater (it doesn't), it would tear up and overwork the dough. As it is, you're lucky you didn't strip a gear.
