...The BSOD is displayed because the OPERATING SYSTEM on your HARD DRIVE doesn't like some HARDWARE/ SOFTWARE recently installed... Try removing ALL newly installed stuff then attempt reboot & run. ...

I would try and reboot using F8 just before it starts. You may be able to recover any damaged files from there

On my acer notebook ive got the dreaded BSOD. ive tried every option in the f8 menu and end up back with BSOD. is there anyway for me to fix this? have no disk drive

Try cleaning your laptop and put 1 drop of thermal paste on the top of the processor or CPU. Then try again booting up, if still the same (BSOD) your system files are corrupted. First thing to do is to back up your data or files. Remove your HDD or hard disk drive and plug in to hdd laptop usb adaptor. So that you can backup all your files into another computer. After backup your data or filles. Then you must have the USB windows installer bootable. Make the usb boot first from your bios or cmos settings then follow the on screen instruction for formatting computer.

Please rate me.

Fix the BSOD problem

before doing anything else, press F8 at startup to enter into Safe Mode and try to see if you can copy or backup your files.

A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

Blue screen and the charger works sometimes

blue screen aka bsod. when you get this bsod it will show you stop error code. you need to get the code to identify the exact issue you're having. If the bsod occures after the dell logo issue might be the video card or memory. if the bsod occures after windows logo then if might be caused by a corrupted windows updates or windows system file corruption. if the bsod occured after dell logo then check your memory if you have 2 ram modules try to remove 1 ram first then try booting your system using only 1 ram, try to swap and isolate reseat and teach eash slot on each ram module. if bsod occures after windows logo then try to run a test for your hard drive Fn+Power. If no errors it might be windows file corruption which needs to be restored or re-installing OS.

Can you go to safemode and check if you are able to see the icons.
Did you run a virus scan lately. If not you can try that.

Let me know the results and i can guide you further.

Dell Laptop Inspiron 6400 - "Stop Error Screen" appearing

This stop error means that your ntfs file system is corrupt (damage in the file system, bad hard drive data, corrupt SCSI or IDE drivers or a corrupt ntfs.sys file).

There are two ways, you might be able to fix it

1, If you still can access Windows, try to disable any backup programs, virus scanning programs or disk defragmenter tools. Try also to run a hardware diagnostics tool to detect any errors your hard drive might have. And run chkdsk /r to detect and repair any file system structural damage.

2, If you are unable to load Windows. Then you should try to access your ntfs partitions by making a ntfs boot disk with NTFS4DOS (freeware).

After you load the bootable floppy disk onto your damaged system, select either option one (1) or option three (3). If you selected option one (1), type chkdsk /r at the command prompt, and your problem should go away after the disk has been repaired.

Note! Unfortunately there is a chance that your partition is corrupt beyond repair and all of your data is lost. In that case, you need to reformat the partition to be able to use it again.
