Your CPU speed depends on your front side bus speed. Overclock is an option but never recommended. The upgrading ram is cheapest and most noticable upgrade you can do. If your do want to upgrade your computer i would recommend upgrading ram. Remember any computer with a 32-bit processor can only reconize 4 gig's of ram.

I want to increase the speed of Which type of ram should I use to increase speed of my pc ?

RAM will not increase the speed of your computer. The processor on the motherboard provides a given speed, such a 3 GHz or whatever. It is possible, however, that you need more RAM if you run too many programs or are playing games that need lots of RAM. Go to your manufacturer's website and look up the specs - it should tell you how much total RAM your motherboard will support as well as which type. Go to control panel, then to system. How much ram you have will be listed there. Once you have this information, you can decide if you want to buy more. I have found it is usually best to get RAM all at the same time, from the same place.

I'm finally found my system info can some tell me how much memory Im running on 512.00mb ? :(

you have a 512 mb card in the ram slot which gives you an effective ram of around 480 mb
it is random memory and is a storage space which the cpu uses to move data around while it does it's job
if you want to increase the ram then there should be a spare ram card slot next to the one you have so you can install another ram card of exactly the same value to double the ram memory
in some instances ( like game playing ) it can increase the speed of the computer

System (FSB) speed

The bus speed is set by the motherboard. Only the CPU clock speed can be adjusted in BIOS.

I need to know if the CPU speed can be increased to 1GHz or over and that I have put in 2 memory modules of 128MB onto it but only 128MB appears on the System Properties. Irvin.

You are confusing 2 things, CPU speed and Memory or Ram speed.

To keep things straight forward, cpu speed can only be increased by replacing it with a faster cpu.

Ram, as you can see, can be increased by adding faster ram modules.

Go to either of these websites:-

http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/default.asp

http://www.crucial.com/uk/

Enter *********** board details or request they scan your computer. Check all the information offered, they will tell you what type and how much ram your motherboard can use.

If you can't increase your ram speed to more that 1Gb, I would suggest it time to invest in a new motherboard/PC rather than spending more on RAM.

There can be a whole load of reason why your second stick of ram doesn't work.

1) it could be broken.
2) It could be the wrong type.
3) You may need to update your Bios to accommodate it. Though this is very unusual.

I have Intel Orginal 845GVSR motherboard with 2.4 ghz Processor and 256 ddr Ram. Can I increase my Ram to 1 gm with 400 fsb speed

Yes you can, the speed will be increased approximately more than 50%. There's also advantage if you can install two 512mb, which you'll see it as "dual channel", sometimes this is better as per the system configuration. Good luck. Thank you for using FixYa.

MS 7142 TO INCREASE RAM

hiya

its a case of purchasing the new ram modules taking the old ram out and popping the new ram in

i wud recommend using OCZ, GEIL or Crucial memory modules as these are the best makes

the spped of the ram varies from system to system depending on the system bus speed
the most common speeds for this board is pc2100, pc2700 and pc3200
these speeds are as follows pc2100 - ddr200
pc2700 - ddr333 and pc3200 - ddr400

hope this helps

Pc upgrade

Hi ****, you can increase you system speed slightly (Depending on the total memory speed of the card), by adding an AGP 4x video card & setting your bios to boot to AGP. See page 2-16 in your manual. Change, Init Display First to [AGP]. Doing this will disable the onboard - integrated video card. (Doing this will also free your system memory which is used to run the onboard graphics card). Increasing your system memory to its max of 2GB will help as well. Here is Crucial's memory link for your board. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=P4GE-MX You should increase the CPU if at all possible to its max speed in-order to see an over-all increase of system performance. (This is not what you asked for, so I'll only include Asus link for supported CPU's, for the P4GE-MX motherboard). http://support.asus.com/cpusupport/cpusupport.aspx?SLanguage=en-us&model=P4GE-MX Don't expect lighting speed but you will notice game playing speed much better. Programs should load much faster, ECT. Upgrading the AGP must comply with 4x/8x (+1.5volt only). Please see page 1-12 in your manual. Looking for XFX video card is best because it carries a lifetime warranty. Try this link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150210 You can continue to search for an XFX Geforce cards. (Best on the market for their lifetime warranty). Good luck ****! Though the AGP slot is faster than a PCI slot, you may find an XFX PCI card with more video memory on it. Some even run DDR3 & DDR3 memory. Mike

Memory cards

Normally 512MB is a good configuration of Ram to work with Windows Xp Sp2 but you have clean your temporary files frequently

Increasing RAM will not give you much speed difference because first you have study the Motherboard Bus speed and the cache memory - Actual speed increase from those things and the compatibilty.

Changing Ram you have to determine what type of ram and its bus speed whether its a SD Ram or DDR1 or 2 I hope now days SD ram cost more because its outdated and DDR1 is also bit costly than DDR2.

Fan problem

No sorry. Fans can be monitored through the bios & even set to give you an alarm when the speed gets too low but you can not increase the fan speed. You can replace it with a faster rpm fan.
Standard cpu fans run between 3100rpm to 6000rpm. It is up too you. Some creat a wee bit too much noise after 4000rpm.
Heres a few for your Intel Socket 775 Pentium 4.
