We have an Amana washing machine that we purchased in 1998. When on regular wash, it fills and starts to agitate, but stops. It won't do ANYTHING else under the regular wash. I did turn it to rinse under the Delicate cycle and it drained, spun and finished. Any ideas on what to check first??Thanks
Essentially the same thing has started happening with mine. For a
while, we were able to use the start knob to turn the machine off &
on a few times...but now it doesn't agitate at all on normal or
permanent press cycles. The delicate cycle works fine.

Re: Amana washer - not agitating
There is a motor for the agitation that eventually fails in all washing machines. Due to the fact that this is a 115v set up, you need to use a multimeter to diagnose. There is also a belt that runs from the motor but that rarely is the case.

Washer Agitator Repair Agitator Not Working Repair ... of a whirlpool built washer, manufactured under the appliance brandsMaytag, Amana, ... How To Repair Washing Machine Agitator -Remove And Replace Agitator Dogs ..
On most Amana washers you pull on the agitator with brute force. It "snaps" on. It helps if you fill the washer with hot water and let it set for a few minutes... drain and then try pulling it out. When i last took apart my Amana it took me and a friend to pull the agitator off.
The transmission is dead! It's not worth fixing! If it's 10 years old or more, better off replacing it with a newer machine which will be much more efficient!
1998???????????? Not worth the money to fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
