Strangely enough I went to the website where I purchased the blue tooth. It recommended holding down the button for 8 seconds as opposed to the 3 or 4 listed in the manufacturer's instructions. When I did this it found my phone. The pairing worked fine and now so does the blue tooth.

Either the the blue tooth is not pairing well with other devices,
The blue tooth is corrupted.
When pairing phones together, make sure you pair the phone properly before you can use the blue tooth with other phones, because if you don't pair properly with another device, you will not be able to send or receive any data.
If the blue tooth is corrupted all you need to do is to flash the phone, that is the only way to restore the blue tooth back to be working.
Hey welcome to fixya. i hope you 'll be fine. The query you posted
is not a big problem, because of some reasons this 'll usually happen.
First of all u have to check your blue tooth settings. You 'll go in the
settings of Blue tooth. Check it out there that your phone's visibility
should be " Shown to all" if it is not then open it and set that
phone's visibility " Shown to all".
Second thing is it can be occur
when the no of paired devices is extent to its limit so delete one or
two paired devices if there is any, by going in paired devices which is
also in blue tooth settings. and then make a paired device from whom u
want to connect.
i hope these solution 'll solve your problem. Hope
for the best always IF u like the solution,Kindly do rate me keep using fixya
