Hell, your tv needs a service call if your familiar with electronic systems then you can aquire your tv's service manual then you will be able to get a idea of what the trouble.
basically when the picture is out the power supply may be at fualt but not allways, the best way to find the symptoms is to check the service manual there you will have a product fualt code list and there meanings, you have a emerson i havent had the chance to fix those yet i have done panasonics and akai's and others so i wouldnt know the emerson circuts unless i tinker with it so take your time if you have a bit of electronics knowlege you can do it ..

best bet is to get a service manual and take it from there
most of the time the trouble shooting tips help you determine the fualty board or parts or what to exchange ..

good luck and best regards.

My vizio tv has no picture but has sound BUT it started a few weeks before that where the screen got darker in a few spots and then eventually went all black.

Mark,
Try this first. Not sure, but most Vizio menus within the last 4 years should be close enough to navigate through. It's a little tricky to get to. You highlight picture, then you hit the right arrow to bring up the Picture menu. Go down to Advanced Video (one above Reset Picture Mode) and hit the right arrow again to bring up another submenu. Go down to Backlight Control. There are three options: OFF, DCR and OPC. Both DCR and OPC seem to cause a problem. Try turning this feature to "OFF" and see if the the problem goes away

When turning TV on it would click a few time, then you would hear a hissing sound, but no picture. Would have to unplug TV, as it would not power down. Unplugging and plugging in would eventually get...

The hissing sound could be high voltage leaking from a tripler. Observe in a dark room for blue arcing. Look at tripler and connections to the projection tubes. If the tripler is leaking replace the tripler.

RCA light comes on and then goes off. Tv doesn't turn on

replace CP150 and CP114 you can get them at the following link they also have the ITC222 service manual which is listed under Thomson as Thomson makes your TV for RCA. The Capacitors are listed under the RCA parts and they do send instructions with pictures of where the capacitors are located as well as how to remove the board.

maybe your ac cable has a lost contact thats why when you wiggle it it will turn on. just replace your power cable first before you are going to troubleshoot the other problem.

Tv screen goes black for a few seconds

do you get sound while screen does black? what do you mean by "until eventually it has turned black and will not come back"? is it black from the minute you turn the tv on untill you turn it off? if sound is good but picture is black, it may be the resault of a fried monitor tube, in this case replacement will cost alot. if sound is dead also, them it is probobly power supply related issue. get out your DMM and measure the voltages in the power supply. When the screen goes black, is there still regulated B+ going to the circuitry? Do you still have HV? Is the filament of the CRT lit? Does the set still have a raster (you may have temporarily increase the screen setting to see it)? Do you measure any of the flyback derived B+ voltages that go to the video processing, tuner, Vertical Deflection, and other circuitry?
