Re: door on w/mach will not open
This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model front loading washers. If you experience a problem where the door becomes jammed and will not unlock or open, here's an easy way to gain access inside your washer WITHOUT calling the repairman.
1. Remove the lower panel under the door by loosening the three screws under the bottom edge on the front of the washer. HINT: If you prop up the front feet of the washer with some small blocks of wood, this will make access to the screws much easier. 2. With the screws removed, the lower panel should drop down then come off. If the panel sticks, a light tap on either side will knock it loose. 3. Reach your hand up inside the washer behind the front casing on the right-hand side. This is where the door latch assembly is located. 4. At the bottom of the door latch assembly is a small pull tab. This is the manual release for the door. Pull the tab straight down and the door will come open.
Sometimes these doors will not unlock for whatever reason. If there are no error codes being generated, this could have just been a momentary glitch. If you see "Fdl" or "Fdu" error codes, these are usually indications of a failed door latch assembly and will require replacement.

The door latch is probably broken. Emergency opening can be done accessing the door latch from the inside of the washer assembly.
Before attempting an emergency opening, disconnect power cord and empty water inside the machine through the filter located at the bottom front side of the machine.
After removing water connect back the machine and try opening again.
If that does not work, then the machine must be disassembled. Most models have an emergency cable located on the inside of the door latch. Pulling the cable will release the latch. The inside of the door latch is reached either from filter housing or from top of the machine. Either the filter (usually held by screws) or the top panel must be removed to access the inside of the lock mechanism. Power must be kept off while doing maintenance. Due to the safety issues involved the door latch emergency opening and repair must be done by a trained technician.
Check the machine is empty of water, and the power switch is off. I like to unplug it as well. Open the door to the needle trap and drain pump (which is on the bottom left of the machine), using a flat-bladed screwdriver on the right hand side. Drain out any remaining water by pulling the drain hose off from it's 'peg' on the inside of the door. Remove the screw that holds the red plastic handle in place. Pull on the handle, and the door will open. Before you replace the screw, you'll have to feed the cord to the plastic handle back into it's hole.
Needs a new door handle kit which is the easy part.
the hardest part is getting the door unlocked, play with the handle to unlock it, or take the top off and try unclip the catch from the interlock .
You may have to break the door plastic, don't break the interlock though and buy a new door
firstly unplug the appliance, then take top off then with you hand reach down towards the door mechanism on the inside then feel for a lever or the cable and play around with that and the door will spring open, then check the door handle
yes u can open door from the inside, take the top off (take plug out first)put your arm down to near the door latch and you will feel the mechinism there just gently push down or up until the door opens,if water is still in the washer then take drain pipe out of the waste pipe and place a bucket on the floor then put the pipe in that to manualy drain it,hope this helps you,ps you can buy a new door handle from any washing repair shop and they are easy to replace just see how the old one comes off, rgrds, paul
leave the door ajar between uses if possible , there is a product on the market now to assist the odors of front loaders. www.affersh.com . you MUST also use an HE detergent ( specifically designed for front loading washers)
