Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDF-50WE655 50" Rear Projection HDTV
You need to contact Sony on this one. They have had a series of defective light engines in their DLP sets and this is one of those models. They will undoubtedly instruct you to take it to an authorized service center. However, if, as in our area, there is not an authorized servicer they will give a special autorization to a qualified shop as they did in our case. We have seen several of these.
The bad light engine is typically characterized by color blotches and color speckles on the screen. The bad units we have have (not coincidentally, me thinks) have all had problems with the blue.
The customer service line is 1-800-282-2848. Remember that you always catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. You are trying to get them to pay for something that they are not under any obligation to. Be firm if necessary, but be kind. They should help you out.

SOURCE: Black blotch on bottom of screen
if you can take the screen out , then use some dish soap,rag and water to clean the black blotch
if that don't work you may need to use something a little stronger , but not enough to hurt the screen

I have the same exact TV, with the same problem!
I found out that Zenith has a class action litigation open thru July 2010
Your Optic Light Engine is Defective and Zenith has to replace it for free
Or give you a new 50" Plasma or 44" LCD.

Call the service center and let them know what your problem is and that you know
about the litigation. They will have a tech call you and troubleshoot it over the phone.
Then they will order the Light Engine and have a Tech come to your house and
replace it. It will cost you nothing!!!
