Question about Toshiba Satellite A100-S8111TD Notebook

1 Answer

I lost the floating onscreen function bar

I used to use it to use mouse to make brightness up or down.
I don't know where it went. It was autohide and when I went to top of screen it appeared (sometimes a nuisance).
My F7 when manually pushed gives some message about a carat or something, cannot change brightness easily.

The solution was to go to Toshiba site and download software, but I have no idea what software to look for. I have not had the time to search the site to try and determine, but I will. thanks.

GO to toshiba and reinstall the software. My guess is it was disabled in msconfig or somehow the software went bad. Reinstalling it should work.

My scroll bar keeps going down

My volume control kept going to the bottom and muting and scrolling pages was impossible. Kept running to the bottom as well so I read and read and tried and tried. In the end the solution for me was simple. The center button on my wireless mouse was stuck. I pushed on the center button, something went pop unsticking it and everything works. Play with your mouse or replace it.

Page up button not working

Unfortunately it sounds like you're keyboard is malfunctioning and the only permanent fix is to replace the keyboard. In the mean time, since you are unable to do so, I would suggest using the touch pad to manipulate the scroll bar for the faster scrolling. For more control you could use a USB mouse with the laptop which would give you a scroll wheel. (I personally use a Wireless Mouse with my laptop because I find touch pads don't react they way I would like my mouse to use)

Luminosity of screen too low

I'm not familiar with that specific laptop, but there is usually a Function key, labeled fn on the lower right by the space bar, and then when you look at the keyboard, some of the keys have small pictures in the same color as the writing on the function key (usually blue) look for the picture that looks like a sun with an up arrow. Most laptops let you adjust the brightness that way. Just keep holding down function and pressing the brightness up key.

Laptop will not boot up completely, shows backdrop and screensaver, can't get task bar at the bottom to pop up.

this is a condition caused by a damaged windows....To be exact some of the system files that are responsible with the desktop appearance were damaged or radically changed...
First point the mous at the bottom of the screen to see if the task bar is not set to autohide...if nothing gets on ..try to right click on desktop and than properties,,,and on the themes choose the windows that you use...and ok ..and see if the desktop is getting back ....If the result is the same the only fast solve is to reinstall it using the recovery cd ..or partition ...or a boot-able cd with the operation system ...cause if it is not getting back after that it means that it was completely and irremediable damaged..

I have lost my Menu Bar and have tried going to the Control Panel

try using your menu key on your keyboard. its next to the Ctrl key, that will bring up your start menu which shuld also show the task bar. right click on the task bar and click on properties. make sure "auto hide Task bar is not checked. and lock task bar. you may also have lowered it below your view. try moving your mouse pointer down at the bottom of the screen and see if your pointer turns into an arrow., if it does hold the left mouse button and move it up untill your task bar shows.
