SOURCE: mobile two way radio for car service in new york

Generally 100-110 watts is the most you will find in a mobile FM 2-way radio. However, if your FCC license permits more wattage, you can use an amplifier to boost your power. More wattage does not necessarily equate into more range. Height, placement and tuning of your antenna determines your range. Check with your local FM radio dealer to determine which model will work best in your area.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

this radio is a ham radio. It should put out 200 w on the ham freqs but it is only supposed to put out no more than 4 - 5 watts on am. Can do 50 on SSB and if you bought it without realizing it,and now you\'re mad because it won\'t do what it is supposed to. next time read the small print and you won\'t be out so much money.

Galaxy 98 vhp will only do 140 watts swing. it use to do 200 watts

There could be several things wrong. Start with the antenna, check your antenna for high SWR's.
If that is not the problem then the radio will need to go to a cb shop. chances are that you have aproblem with the PA section of the radio.

I hooked up my connex 4600 turbo directly to the battery in my new international prostar, when I key up to talk, my check engine light comes on and it throws the cruise control off. Why is it doing this,...

You have a high-power radio that will put out over 200 watts RF power. You're drawing too much amperage from your car's electrical system, causing it to shut things off. First try a new and higher CCA rated battery. After that, you might need a bigger alternator. 200 watts is usually not a problem unless you have a little car built to use as little resources as possible to increase mileage.

I have a trailer house that has a 100 amp breaker box in it. I has gas for heat, water heater and stove. I am changing them to electric. Will I need to change the panel put to a 200 amp.

Its probably not a bad idea. Thats alot for a 100A panel to handle, a range needs a 50A, a water heater needs 30A, and the heat will need a 50A or a 60A breaker... Plus whatever else is in the house will be a bit more than the 100A service can handle. But if you don't have the money it will do for a while because for the most part they won't all be pulling at the same time. Word to the wise get at least a 30 space panel when you upgrade, I always install a 40 space panel because for the cost difference its well worth it for future needs because you'll fill it up quicker than you think and you'll have space for anything else you may want to add later on. Hope I helped

Can i wire direct to battery to get more power instead of the fuse panel.Plus i have a comet 200 hooked up and only getting 125 watts whats the prob

comet 200? its a 2 pill. 125 watts seems right. The amp should be run straight to the battery always. you can run the radio, but that will not get you more power although it will help with engine noise in your radio. You could be starving the amp if its not run to the battery, but you won't see much more wattage.

Also your dead key will effect your power output. Should have some where around a 2 watt dead key.

This leads me to my next point.

What kind of meter are you using? if its a cheapo pyramid or workman, it may only read average watts. and it will only show you your dead key. It will not show you audio swing. you need a meter that can read peak watts to see your true swing.

you may be doing more then you see on your meter.

Question about my cobra 200

no need to increase power output. you can take a radio with 100 watts and a radio with 10 watts that had had a modulation kit installed and the 10 watt radio will out talk the 100 watt radio ALL day long. the best thing to do would to put a mod kit in it and have the dead key cut back to 1/2 watt then put as little amp behind it. with those mods it will be loud and clear. hope that helps
