Western Digital Elements Hard Drive 1TB Stopped Working!?

I brought this hard drive on the 4/1/09

it worked up till yesterday when i was playing a game online (call of duty) and the game just closed down and a error came up saying *can't find missing file*

i doubled click call of duty again to play it again and then it said it couldn't find any files/missing shortcut...

On my computer it says nothing about the hard drive jsut my two normal ones, but it says under *saftey remove hardware* the name of the hard ware...

plus it has started to make a wierd noise like dink dink dink

Any help??

Thanks

Twice the power pack has burnt out ! and i got it replaced the third time it was working fine for a couple of weeks and then every time i plug the power in i hear the hard drive powered up within about a minute i hear quite a few clicks, my computer knows the hard drive is there but doesn't show

Western Digital 1TB Elements Drive is not being recognized. I connect the drive and nothing. It worked fine until yesterday. Yesterday I took it to a friend's place to copy some files. It worked fine then. I brought it back home and that's it. The computer doesn't recognize it anymore.

I tried on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. It worked once on Windows 7 in my laptop. I moved it now to my desktop and it doesn't work anymore. Not even on Windows 7 now :(

    Same problem over here!

Same again here. Bought for Christmas, stopped working today. Windows recognises that there's a hard drive *there* but cannot read anything on it. A ton of data is now lost to us.

My WDC 1TB has gone exactley the same way, I asked a friend of mine who is a systems analyst and he told me that the power supplies are not up to much and can cause the controller inside the enclosure to fail. The power supplies are also known to burn out as they cannot supply the demands of the enclosure properly. It makes me wonder if Western Digital noticed the onset of SATA and needed to get rid of PATA drives from the warehouse by any means neccesary???? A cheap 1TB external will always be popular, I'm sticking to Maxtor from now on, never had a problem with them.

Western digital drives are garbage, I was using western digital drives in customers pcs and they would often come back within a week that the new disk failed. This is unacceptable as my customers need there computers and its a bad reflection on me. Now i only use seagate or hitachi and I have never had a problem with either. I strongly urge anybody that reads this to avoid western digital at all costs.

Western Digital Elements Drive Problem

check the drive on any other system.

may be last time you were using the drive and system carsh or improper shutdown this can cause the drive damage.

Also may be a virus format the disk and try it.
