.. you need to replace the 24VDC fan on the controller board (on the side of unit, remove the screw above the AC power plug and screw that holds the metal cover). Lexmark claims they can't sell just the fan.

    The fan markings show:

    Y.S. Tech
    DC Brushless Fan
    DC 24V 0.10A
    made in china

If you find a source, please let us know.

A suitable replacement for this fan is available. The Sunon replacement is superior to the original fan.

A good replacement is available now on ebay. This fan is exact size and has superior performance to the original.

    I have a temp fix:
    Take fan out.
Take off the sticker on the fan.
    Spray a little WD40.

Don't spray while in the printer! The fan is pretty east to get out. First screw above the power adapter, take off that panel. One more screw after that. It should keep it going till the replacement comes in.

CPU fan locked

Wow, after hours of searching I found the right connectors for the fan since it comes with bare wires when ordered from  (The fan to order is a 24v DC Y.S. Tech FD245010MB.)  The connectors are from JST America and can be ordered from

Part 455-1126-ND (housing that takes pins spaced 2mm apart)
Part 455-2148-1-ND (pins)

You have to order at least 10 housings and 100 pins but all of that costs about $2.50.

You can also order the crimp tool but that costs $1,300.  I'll just use a needle nose pliers.

Good luck!

My Lexmark 500n has a warning message [ WARNING: CPU Fan is Locked ]what does that mean?Seems to print fine but the message is ;( Anybody know what I should do?

Might be some foreign debris stopping the cpu fan from running and cooling the cpu.

I wouldn't leave this problem for long since a fried cpu will mean the end of your printer

Double side priting in lexmark X502

in Lexmark X502n you can not do a duplex print as in print both sides which is actually a big surprise because overall its an amazing printer.

Go on this website and at the bottom you'll see that it has no duplex printing:,6970,204816596_653293760_1043815135_en,00.html?tabId=1

Warning: CPU Fan is Locked!

You have a fan that is not working.
Just be happy that is isn't the photoconductor.
What kind of computer is it?
If a fan isnt working it is not the end of the world,... Front fans go all the time and are basically useless anyway.
If it is hampering our ability to print lemme know and I will delve further into this.
I will need the make and model of the computer/printer.

Warning: CPU Fan is LOCKED -- Lexmark X500n printer

I fixed this in 12 minutes. I took the fan out, lubed it up with a high-tech petroleum based lube and freed up the fan. Reinstalled and no more error message. We ordered a new one so when this fails, we'll be ready. It seems that moisture got into the axle and corroded it and caused it to lock up.

I have a technics su x502 amp & it works for a while then goes off & then comes back on after about 5 mins, the rest of hifi stays on its just the amp.

take out the cooling unit (the fan) and use a cpu fan out of a pc connected to an external power source like a 12v dc/ac adaptor and use it to blow constant cool air through the hole onto the heat sink. i know it sounds like a ruff job but it does work, my amp doesnt even get hot and it plays all night long without cutting out once. you will get noise from the fan constantly on but i just turn it up louder. this is just a ruff quick fix.

CPU fan stops, computer shuts down

You must have the CPU fan plugged into the CPU fan power connector or the system can not monitor the fans speed. Your PC will shut down & give you that message. (The fan must be connected to the correct power plug).
If when you did replace the CPU's fan & had to remove the heat sink, which is where the fan screws into & did not clean the old thermal grease off the CPU & heatsink & replace with new thermal grease than your CPU will still overheat. If you add thermal grease over top of old thermal grease your CPU will over heat.
This is all a balancing act. If any one is not correct your system will shut down. (This is better than killing the CPU).
To remove old thermal grease use a clean cloth damped with house hold alcohol & use the same on the bottom of the heatsink. Please allow plenty of time for the alcohol to dry.

Good Luck! Take your time.
