    I have this same issue.

  • ftcnet-ca Mar 25, 2009

it's the CPU fan on the main controller board. The needed fan is 5x5x1 cm, but 24VDC (not 12VDC). Lexmark won't sell just the fan- ony the whole controller board at twice the price of the complete printer.

You have a fan that is not working.
Just be happy that is isn't the photoconductor.
What kind of computer is it?
If a fan isnt working it is not the end of the world,... Front fans go all the time and are basically useless anyway.
If it is hampering our ability to print lemme know and I will delve further into this.
I will need the make and model of the computer/printer.

SOURCE: Warning: CPU Fan is Locked!

Wow, after hours of searching I found the right connectors for the fan since it comes with bare wires when ordered from www.cypower.com. (The fan to order is a 24v DC Y.S. Tech FD245010MB.)The connectors are from JST America and can be ordered from www.digikey.com.

Part 455-1126-ND (housing that takes pins spaced 2mm apart)
Part 455-2148-1-ND (pins)

You have to order at least 10 housings and 100 pins but all of that costs about $2.50.

You can also order the crimp tool but that costs $1,300. I'll just use a needle nose pliers.

Good luck!

When i turn on my hp all in one computer,it's telling me cpu fan can not be detected

Hello user...you are receiving this message at start-up because, in your bios system settings, "run fast diagnostic test" is enable...CPU fan is like a computer fan but attached with the cpu to cooled the cpu so that the cpu will function properly so as the computer...perhaps there is a problem with the fan, so its not running when the computer starts. This may harm your CPU, as a result may blow the circuits in the motherboard and eventually your computer will crash....for a technical advice, you may want to visit the nearest PC repair shop and change the cpu fan..

How to install cpu on HP Pavilion a1140n Desktop PC

Remove the heatsink and fan assembly over the CPU.
The CPU is locked in the CPU socket, lift up the locking lever to release the CPU.
The new CPU needs to be inserted into the socket and then lower the lever to lock the CPU into the socket.
Coat the CPU with heatsink compound before fitting the heatsink and fan.

Is it possible to put the cpu back in the wrong way? i have just cleaned my comp & i removed the fan over the cpu & the video card? i put them back & now i cant get a signal to my monitor could...

If there is no activity when you power up then it could be the CPU.
Remove the CPU and check the CPU to see if you have not bent any pins. The CPU can only be installed in one position.
The CPU when removed usually sticks to the heatsink.
The CPU should be removed off the heatsink.
The CPU is locked onto the CPU chip holder, lift the locking level up to release the CPU or there may be a locking screw instead of a lever. Turn the screw anti-clockwise to release the CPU lock.
Insert the CPU in the chip holder and lock the CPU in place. If it a screw lock then turn the screw clockwise to lock the CPU in place.
Smear some fresh heat sink compound on the CPU and heatsink and place and then lock the heatsink in place.

Cpu fan problem

If you plugged the replacement fan into the power supply instead of the "male plug on the mother board" you will get that error message. You need to find a fan that has the female plug for the mother board. It solved my problem.

AUTO SHUTTING DOWN WHEN LOADING WINDOWS

Hi there!
AMDs (some of them) have Overheating issues. Your default BIOS is set to protect the CPU chip in case of overheating. It will do so by shutting down the computer.
You can hold "delete" key on boot to enter BIOS. Go to "PC Health Status" or " Hardware monitor". Here if you see temperature exceeding 60 degrees or more, this mean it's OVERHEATING!
Now the first thing is to check if your CPU fan is running & is well secured with the lock. Try to move it to see if it's loose. Secure it properly to solve. If it's not running, you'll need to replace.
However if it's not the problem, remove the fan & its aluminum heat-sink with CARE. Then re-seat the heat-sink properly.
Note that a poor contact of CPU & heat-sink = Very Hot CPU & cold heat-sink.
If it's not the case, therefore remove the heat-sink & clean the old thermal paste on it & the Cpu chip also.
Apply proper thermal grease e'g Arctic Silver.
If the above does not solve the issue, you'll need to replace fan. (pls check with another one before buying a new one if possible)
Ultimately if the issue is not solved by the above, this means that the heat sensor on the motherboard is faulty. Here motherboard needs replacement or warranty services.
Hope this advice really helps you. Please remember to send us your valuable feedback as it's very important for us!

My Lexmark 500n has a warning message [ WARNING: CPU Fan is Locked ]what does that mean?Seems to print fine but the message is ;( Anybody know what I should do?

Might be some foreign debris stopping the cpu fan from running and cooling the cpu.

I wouldn't leave this problem for long since a fried cpu will mean the end of your printer

Processor fan

It sounds like your CPU fan is slowing down with age and thus triggering your motherboards warning 'slow fan' alarm, while it may just need a good clean (remove dust/grime) it may prove much easier to simply replace the whole fan anyway...
