SOURCE: Maxtor one Touch 300GB no steady green light

Hi,

The USB Isn,t supplying/providing enough Power to the device.
Search e-bay or similar for a 2 into 1 USB Cable.
Then power the unit with 2 USB Ports on the Computer.
2 x USB Into 2 x Sockets On P.C. 1 x Into Device Drive.
This will be enough power to operate the Device Correctly.

I,ve done this on several external Drives, never failed for Me.

Could be that the control board inside the device is going bad. Have you tried other cables to connect to your computer?
If that fails, then I'd suggest removing the drive from it's enclosure and using an adapter to connect the drive directly to your PC as an external device. I found one on eBay, years ago, for about $13USD.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 - flashing green light.

Solution:
First, disconnect the power cable from the back of the external hard drive:
If the power supply LED continues to blink:

Connect the power supply to a different outlet (or instead of connecting to a power strip, connect directly to an outlet in the wall).
If the power supply continues to blink after changing outlets, this indicates that the power supply is defective and needs to be replaced.
If the power supply stays solid, then reconnect to the external hard drive and see if the drive spins.
