I have the same problem--motherboard manual download from intel site shows front panel connector block with 10 pins-9 used. The D845GRG board that I have has a 15 pin front panel block with 13 used? I'm afraid I might have already blown it! by hooking up the diagrams configuration. The board will not even start the pwr supply> Pwr supply starts if I jump green and black wires on power plug--fans run and standby led is on but no post or code beeps.

when I hook up the board, the power turns on but I only get fans and front panel lights.. nothing else.

Normally a small area of 10 pins or 9 one is not used, you nedd the book or go to manufactuers website and download user manual, connect your wire to the board with out a diagram and you could damage the board

Mother board power switch

I don't know what you are asking for exactly, so I'll through out possibilities.

A) The Power On switch located inside the plastic Power On button assembly is a Momentary Contact Switch.
It is an ATX power on switch.

This is a generic example of a Power On switch that fits Many models,

B) The plastic front of the computer is a Front Panel.
The area of pins on the motherboard, that the cables (Wires) from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

Intel Support > Intel D865GLC motherboard > Product Guide,

To find out if the problem is the Power On switch, or the Power Supply, perform the simple test using a jumper wire.
If you do not know how to perform this test, and wish to, post in a Comment.

You need to remove the two jumpers from the pins, this is where you connect the front panel audio connector, if your case has each wire separate. then please look at this webpage http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-015851.htm look at the part "For AC97 Front Panel Audio" PIN 1 should read MIC. If not, then scroll down, you are reading the wrong part of the page.

If I understand correctly you are looking for the pin layout to reconnect your front panel cables. Here is the link for the manual for your motherboard which should show you everything you need to know about your board.

Connecting front panel wiring to INTEL 845GRG Motherboard

Hello davideiker1, the Intel D845GRG MB manual is shared with another Intel board. (D845GBV MB). Go to this Intel site & download the D845GRG manual; http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845grg/sb/cs-008873.htm You'll need Adobe reader to view the manual. Download Adobe from this link; http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/
See page 9 for motherboard layout.
The front panel connectors are shown on page 68, see item C.
On page 69 is, Table 31 shows the pin assignments for the front panel header. Front Panel Header (J9G1).
Pin 1 is power for the hard disk drive led, pin-3 is negative for the hard disk drive. Wire colors coming from the case are important. Look at all of the front case wires. The common color for each 2-pin connector will be ground. In most cases the ground wire is white, except for the internal speaker. Ground for the speaker is normally black. (This motherboards speaker is built into the MB, no hook up is needed).
Pin number 2 is positive for the case power led which lights up as green. Pin 4 is negative for the power led.
The reset switch is a bit different. Pin 5 is negative & pin 9 is positive, however if your case uses a two pin connector than connect pin 7 as ground & pin 9 for positive. The On/Off switch, pin 6 is positive & pin 8 is negative.
If this manual is not what you see on the MB, please advise.

Good luck davideiker1!
