All you need to do is install whatever os you prefer.
blue screen usually happens with insufficient ram(mem)or incompatability issues(conflicts)sometimes can indicate bad sectors on hd...when all else is checked and faults still occur its usually hd bad sectors which without software to detect this your system gives you no indication of what the fault may be and just keeps crashing.
I have hdd recover software if you send ur email I can post it to you

Just got a refurbished HP Pavilion DV7-4165DX laptop. Right out of the box it blue screen crashes and continues to do this several times a day. I have used the backup partition to reformat/reinstall...

One of the main reasons for blue screen crashes is a faulty device driver.

RMB click "My computer" - LMB "Manage" - LMB "Device Manager" and look for yellow question marks in the device listing. If you find one, said device driver needs attention.

To find drivers for you laptop, go to the HP website, follow links for support and downloads entering details of you laptop and operating system as you go.

It may be worth the trouble of updating you drivers to the latest versions anyway.
