Long story short - each time you boot up the PC it instantly goes to a black screen saying: "a disk read error occurred." It does allow you to boot off the XP CD and looks like it is starting up the setup process, but never goes to the blue screen and stays stuck on a black screen.

cpenzes - I've already restarted and booted off the XP cd. It prompts to press any key and it boots off the CD. It appears like it will start to go to the Setup and then just stays on a black screen.

Okay you need to boot from cd
put win cd in drive restart when asked to boot from cd hit enter
this should get you there
if not we'll have to change your boot options

Reinstalled Windows XP on a Dell Dimension 8400 and The local area connection is not detected. Cannot seem to find drivers through Dell support

Dell Dimension 8400 PC"s use either Broadcom Extreme Ethernet controllers OR, on SOME models of the 8400 that do NOT have ON-board Ethernet connections, SMC Networks Ethernet Drivers. I've seen MANY a Dell Dimension.

Dell 8400 Boots to Black Error Screen in XP States to reinstall System 32

This might be caused by hard-drive failure. You should run hard drive test from BIOS to make sure hard drive is ok. You can access BIOS by pressing F2 during start up, from there start hard disk self test and wait for it to complete.

If hard drive is ok after test, insert in your original Windows installation media and reinstall OS.

If you hit <F12> key upon boot-up and the monitor displays a boot menu, then you probably have an issue with your XP software. Meaning that you may have to re-install XP (by the way, XP is no longer supported).

Software errors can be caused by a variety of problems. Depending on your Operating System (Windows 200, XP, Vista) you should troubleshoot different things...can you copy down and post here some of the error messages/numbers?

However, it sounds like you may need to reinstall Outlook. Back up any .OST or .PST files (search for them on your hard drive) and uninstall/reinstall Outlook.
