Question about Nikon COOLPIX L18 Digital Camera

Nikon coolpix L18. Can't put pix on comp. format card

I turned my camera on and it said "format card: yes no." I didn't want to format it yet bc I havent transferred my pix on my comp. All pix delete when you format your sd card. When I said No it said you may turn off your camera. The same thing pops up when I turn it on again.
I plugged my camera into my comp using USB port and turned my camera on. It said "cannot read card." How can I get my pix on my comp first and then format my card?
I have about 100 pics on there including my wedding dress pics! I really dont want to lose these! Plz help!

We tried using the memory card reader, but the reader also says the disk drive is not formatted. Any other ideas?

Same here. It wont let me put pictures on, and I dont want to delete my pictures on my memory card that ARE on there. I have formatted it more than 4 times, and it still keeps popping up.

I suggest you to remove the card from the camera and use a memory card reader to transfer the pictures to the computer. Note that the memory card should be formatted in the camera. Once the pictures are transferred you can reinsert the memory card to the camera and then format it in the camera.

Memory cards need to be formatted before they can be used, so yes, format the card.

All of a sudden, my MacBook says "cannot recognize format" of some of my Nikon Coolpix L18 pix and won't download my last 10 pix, nor any more that I take. It downloaded the previous 20 pix...

Sounds like the memory card in the camera has gone bad, or the camera has glitched. Try replacing the card. If it still does it, the cam has issues.

My nikon stopped turning on after downloading pixs

Try this...remove the card and battery...press all the buttons...leave it alone for 20 minutes...insert the card and then the battery...turn it on.

I need the software 4 the nikon coolpix L18 so i can get my pixs on my computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, or you can use software like Nikon Transfer, available along with all current Nikon software at http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/61

Lens error message on nikon coolpix L18 I purchased my Nikon L18 Cool Pix camera last September ('08). Last week when I turned it on, the lens extended fully, then retracted fully as I got a "lens error"...

Hi,
When system control does not get lens initialize signal while extending it, then it try again by folding it and extending and still no required initialize signal then generate error and stop further functions.

Please remove battery and open camera and remove flexible wire of lens mechanism from connector, there would be lock that needs to release to remove flexible wire. Clean wire terminals with alcohol, let it dry and put back flexible wire in connector and lock it. Now put battery and power camera up, hopefully lens will work properly.

Hit "add a comment" button for further query / info.
Thanks.

Camera does not recognize memory card

It appears the SD card the retailer sold is not compatible with the camera. Put in a different memory card and camera works fine.
