Question about Dell Latitude C840 Notebook

When I am typing in email or a document, the mouse location on the screen tends to drift, so that every minute or so I am all of a sudden typing in another spot in the document. It really slows me down! thanks for any help you can give.

Can you try and type without your hand or palm connecting to the touchpad and see if its your palm that's causing it.

Mice are driven by the software. That is why  i asked if you had tried another mouse confirming that it was not the mouse hardware since it did it on both.     I believe the answer to be to either restore your computer to an  earlier time(date) , when you had not the problem, or to reinstall your windows OS.

My cursor jumps suddenly from one place to another, it's very annoying while typing emails, word documents, everywhere... pls help

The usual reason this happens in laptops is that as you're typing, you hit the touchpad with the heel of your hand and the cursor moves. I've done it myself. What I suggest is turning off the touchpad and using an external mouse if you do a lot of typing. This eliminates the accidental contact, and (to me, at least) a real mouse is more comfortable for frequent use. Most computers have a switch that turns the touchpad on or off, or you can disable it through the Windows Control Panel or touchpad utility program.

Mouse keeps shifting the cursor to a different place in document

On touchpads if you touch the pad twice in quick succession it acts as a click and the cursor will move to the mouse pointer location. In mouse settings disable "tapping"

Mouse drifts all over screen

Hello there, this a well known problem with inspiron 4000's like a majority of other Dell Inspiron user's... After some time I've managed to fix it simply by downloading a touchpad driver (Tp2aa10i.exe) for Inspiron 4000 from a Dell website. The problem is the defect of the mousestick! And Dell is aware of it! Upon installation, simply disable the mousestick and the headache's gone! This way you can still use you your touchpad and mouse.....

Typing problem

the problem is where the mouse cursor is. When you begin to type have the mouse cursor as far down the page as possible the glide pad can pick up the slightest variant of pressure and move your text to the position where the mouse cursor is.
