I am having a great deal of difficulty installing my Dell All-In-One 924 printer on my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.4.11). I have plugged the printer into the USB port of my MacBook and the printer is not detected. When I attempt to add a printer I am asked to choose a manufacturer, which I am not sure of. I have read it could be Lexmark but I do not know which model. I have also read that Dell printers may not be compatible with Mac computers. I have the installation disk for the printer.
I would appreciate any suggestions that you might have.
Thanks so much for your response. This has been an extremely frustrating experience. If I install the appropriate driver on my MacBook Pro, I should be able to use my Dell printer? I have not worked with my Mac for very long. I am also not familiar with drivers. Thank you for the link to Dell. Thanks so much for your response. This has been an extremely frustrating experience. Dell 921 are windows drivers(see extensive list of drivers below) I found no drivers for an Apple operating system. If Del didn;t have their programmers write a driver I doubt any one else did.You said you could not find on within you mac OS. Real sorry. It will never work w/o a driver.

Nope, It will almost definitly not work with your macbook. I have a macbook pro and a dell photo printer and there is no way I could get them working together. Dell does not seem to care about mac users. The installation CD for their printers do NOT work with mac os, only windows. An apple rep advised me to try using some of the laptops built in drivers, but i still couldnt get it to work. Short answer, maybe give it a try before buying another printer, but most likely you are not gonna be able to use your dell printer with the macbook. sorry, I wish dell would change their position on this issue as well.
You should install the driver on the CD that came with your purchase on that Dell All-in-One 924 printer. However, make sure that you are installing the correct driver according to your OS.
If you dont have the driver, you can click on this link to download it directly.
You sure you got the original gray label install discs for this computer?
Sometimes people stick gray discs in with the computers and they are not specific for that model. The Macbook Pro ships with Tiger 10.4.6
Borrow a black label Tiger retail disc from someone and install your OS that way.
Currently there is not driver support from Dell for the Mac OS. You will need to install you printer on a Windows machine then share the printer with your Mac system so you can print from Mac.
There are no known working drivers to make a Dell Photo 924 work on a Mac.
This printer is a rebadged Lexmark that uses a proprietary firmware that will only work with Dell drivers and there are none for MACs. You will need to replace the printer...and no, the standard Lexmark drivers will not work with a Mac OS.
Unfortunately, there is no offical driver for Mac OS X for this specific printer, but you can try following this link to see if the steps there can at least help you try to use the printer under that operating system. If it does, great, but if it doesn't, I'm afraid you're out of luck
