Roper RED4440VQ1 how do you know if high limit thermostat is broken?

Dryer will not heat. I have tried cleaning vents and checking air flow.

  • Sal De Jan 27, 2013

when ever you check a part you have to remove at least one of the wires when checking for continuity, set the meter on say 20k ohms, touch the leads together and you should get a reading, anything but 1,then remove at least one of the wires with the machine unplugged, put the leads to the part,if it stays on 1 the part is bad,any other reading the part is good.

  • Sal De Jan 27, 2013

one more thing, before you even start checking the dryer for bad parts make sure you have 240 volts coming into the dryer.on the back whre the cord connects to dryer, remove cover and check with meter set on volts and make sure you have 240 volts coming to dryer,if not dryer is ok,problem is with house wiring, bad fuse or braker

You have to unplug the dryer, and remove at least one of the wires and read it out with a meter to check it for continuity.you can go here and see the parts you need to check,http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Roper-Parts/Dryer-Parts/Model-RED4440VQ1/0893/0151200/W0905172/00003?blt=06&prst=0&shdMod=RED4440VQ1
check the element, part number 17 on the diagram and is part 279838,if that's good check the thermostats on the heater box, part 9 and 15 on diagram,if one of them is bad buy part number 279816,it replaces both of them, also check the thermal fuse number 7 on the diagram and it's part 3392519.your lint filter is on top so all your parts are in the back, pull out the dryer, unplug it,remove the vent line and then the back panel, also take out the lint filter and the two phillips screws that are on the top panel and in front of the lint filter, when you're in the back, remove the 4 screws and clean out the metal duct that the filter slides into,if the vent line is a long run you can blow it out with a leaf blower, make sure nothing is blocking the air flow outside,if there's a cage or screen remove it so the lint doesn't build up and block the air flow.hope this helps and good luck.

Warning! To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your appliance.
Below is a link to common solutions that will help you with parts and diagnostic procedures that are specifically tuned to your manufacturers data plate information.
It provides exploded view imagery, belt routing diagrams, parts imagery and function, parts ordering and shipping information, error code details, just about anything you need to get your appliance up and running again.

You may have faulty gas valve solenoids, especially since you've already replaced the other ignition components. Below is an image, (I hope), of the solenoids which can be found and ordered from the link above. A more rare cause can be a lint filter obstruction, i.e. the screen can be coated with an invisible film from using fabric softener sheets. Try running water over the filter screen, horizontally, and if water does not strain through, then replace the filter and stop using fabric sheets.

SOURCE: dryer does not heat

Check the thermal cut-off, the thermostat, and the heating element. Most times one of the tree is the culprit.

I have seen a bad timer cause the no heat problem a few times but 99% of the time it is one of the three I mentioned.

If you change the thermal cut-off make sure you get both the cut-off and the thermostat. A stuck T-stat will take out a cut-off in a big hurry.

SOURCE: Dryer has no heat.

the heating element has probably burned open.
pull the element out and you'll probably find the break in the heating coil.
or possibly one of the leads going to the element has burned open.

good luck.......jay

My 5 year old Kenmore will not dry my clothes.. What's wrong? Does it need a new heating element?

Several things could cause this problem. A model number would help & what is working OK & what is not working OK. If you can send this info it would help track down the problem.Check to see if you are getting good air flow from the vent out side of house or where ever it's coming out. If it is stopped up it can cause this problem. If low air flow, clean inside the machine where the blower is could be full of lint or have junk where the blower is pincels nails or anything keeping the fan bade from turning. Clean vent from dryer to the outside of house.Clean any lint you see. If this don't take care of it check
high temp cutout , all thermostats & thermal fuses. Heating element could be shorted to the case & you would get half as hot. Hope this helps
Good luck. Check fan blade for cracks or being stripped & motor won't turn it.

Roper dryer red4440vq1 not drying after changing internal fuse, internal bias, high limit thermostat and thermal cut off and cleaning vent, element heats up to temp and cycles

If heater is heating and not drying clothes, you have a blockage in ventilation system somewhere either internally in dryer or going out from dryer to outside. Take vent off back of dryer and turn on. Is air flow strong and hot?

No heat/Only works on one setting

This caused by one of two possible things. Either you have poor air flow, or a clogged vent preventing air from flowing freely and therefor making the dryer short cycle, which in turn will take you two or three times to dry yor clothes, or the heating element has gone bad, burnt in half and is making contact with the case to provide it just enough power to barely heat. The second thing is a very rare occurance. I would turn the dryer on, find out where the air vents out to, and with the dryer running, go to where it vents and check to see if there is a strong flow of air. 9 times out of 10 that is going to be your problem. Another way to check air flow is to just pull the vent off the back and let the dryer run and see if your clothes dry faster. If you do it that way and they still take a long time to dry, then you'll probably need to replace the heating element

I have model REX3514PQ0 that I purchased from Lowe's in 2005. It is a Heavy Duty, Extra Large Capacity, 3 Cycle dryer. The dryer will turn on and will blow but only cold air. A friend suggested I check...

There are three switches :: high heat thermostat, low heat thermostat, and thermal limit switch.

Could the the thermal limit switch is opened because the dryer overheated -- these cannot be reset -- need replacing.

Could also be a faulty heating element. To test these components you'll need an ohmmeter (multi-meter) and will need to remove the back of the dryer.

More info, let me know.

Roper model res6745pqo ser.ms4808124 dryer Dryer works except no heat

You have a bad heater element, or high limit/thermostat. Check your vent for restrictions also. A restricted vent will cause higher heat and thus reduce lifetime on these componants. Rich

Dryer doesnt heat up

Thermostat controls heat. There is also a

motor centrifulgal switch, in the element

circuit, that the motor closes to insure

the motor is turning. Try another heat

setting. There is more than one

thermostat. You may have blown the

'thermal fuse' too, which requires

replacement.

Tripped high limit. Must clean the lint

filter and the exhaust vent tube and all

the way in to the dryer. Hot air exit is

restricted.

Dryer takes more than one cycle to dry clothes

Did you clean the entire length of the vent ducting? Or, did you only clean the lint trap on the dryer and the exhaust vent outside? If you didn't clean the ducting as well, you may still have a clog somewhere causing your dryer to be "starved" for air. A dryer needs proper air flow to dry properly. One way to check is to turn the dryer on and go outside to the exhaust vent opening. Feel to see if you have sufficient air flow. If the air flow is weak, you have a clog. If not, you may have a high limit thermostat cutting off prematurely, not allowing the heating element to heat long enough. Check your ducting first and let me know if this helps.
