Without that info it's a **** shoot. The best you can do is Google the make and model number with the word schematic at the end. With any luck, you will find several sites that you can go to to look up or purchase the circuit diagrams and parts with their values.

Lightning damage

Replace the parts with the original ones, a .5 ohm difference on a resistor on the video circuits will cause the unit not to work correctly.

Resister burnt

Guest and Lesfix. RU83 located on the DRC8335 VCR PCB is a 51ohm 1/4 watt 5% tolerence resistor, color coded green-brown-black-gold. As to zener diode DU83, I haven't been able to determine it's value yet but am working on the problem.

Be aware when either or both these components fry, this indicates you need to replace the following two overheating capacitors on the power-supply board, which were directly resonsibile for knocking them out:

• C216 1000µf 16 volt (upgrade to 35 volts)
• C218 1000µf 10 volt (upgrade to 35 volts)

Could you email me regarding this problem when you have time. Mention Fixya and DU83 in the subject line so I realize it's from you. Thanks. mikeadams110@yahoo.com

Missing part

Charger does't connect to DVD player.

Connects to battery. Built your own, Radio Shack, female to male jack, power supply from anything handy or spend $2 at thrift shop, $2 multimeter (Harbor Freight, Cheapo), junk variable resistor (pot).

7.4--8 V adjust. Or, get fixed value resistor dependent on PS voltage.

Charge anything,

And power supply for DVD house current.

Is there a fool-proof method od creating dvd movies that read as well as store bought dvd movies?

Short answer: Not really.

Even if you were to author DVD content identical to an unprotected mass-produced disc, unless you actually send it to replication to get a real DVD and not a burned one, you're still going to have some degree of uncertainty on whether the media can be read in all DVD players.

Newer DVD players are generally more tolerant about reading burned DVDs. Olders ones tend to have more problems.

It is important that you use good-quality media as well. Not all DVD-recordable media has the same readability.

Durabrand DVD-1002 burned up

Wal-Mart recalls 1.5 million Durabrand DVD playershttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090820/ap_on_go_ot/us_recall_dvd_players

WASHINGTON – Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is voluntarily recalling about 1.5 million Durabrand DVD players after the company said it received five reports of the products overheating, leading to fires and property damage.
No injuries have been reported, the company said.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Thursday announced the recall of the Durabrand DVD players, which were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide from January 2006 through July 2009.
The agency said it didn't immediately have the details of the property damage amounts.
The DVD players, made in China and imported by Wal-Mart, can overheat, which poses as a fire and burn hazard to consumers. Wal-Mart said it has received 12 reports of the DVD players overheating, including the five reports that resulted in fires.
The recall involves a single DVD player with a remote control. The silver-colored electronic device has a U-shaped opening at the top to insert the DVD.
The safety commission said consumers should stop using the DVD player and return it to Wal-Mart for a refund. Details: by phone at 800-925-6278; by Web at http://www.walmartstores.com or http://www.cpsc.gov.

No disc

The optical lens is out of alignment. This is why it will read CDs which have much larger data pits that DVDs.

The unit should be able to read and playback CDs (both production and burned) and DVDs (both production and burned). If the optics are out of alignment and exceed their tolerances, the player will not read discs.

This is caused fromt he player being dropped or jarred.

This is not an easy fix for the home user. This is something that a qualified professional needs to correct.

DVDPlayer/Freeview box (believed to be a generic one with a Wharfedale label)

R10 just means Resistor # 10 unfortunately this is just to make the manufacturing process easier.... However reistors are marked with their value(using coloured bars), if you can read the bars you can get a replacement for it, and hence if you can decode the bars you will know what the value of that resistor is Black = 0 Brown = 1 Red = 2 Orange= 3 Yellow= 4 Green = 5 Blue = 6 Violet= 7 Grey = 8 White = 9 therefore if you have a sequence of red green black then you have a 250 ohm resistor, gold, silver and bronze bands on the other end of the resistor designalt tolerance and should be noted Just hope that it was only the resistor that got toasted Good luck
