Question about Computers & Internet

Cannot install upgrade to messenger so I can use my webcam

The update downloads and then I get this message from Window Live Installer: "There was a problem with this installation. Windows live suite was not installed.

System error details
Code: 0x80070057
Description: The parameter is incorrect."

This happens every time I try to sign onto messenger. I need it to use the webcam. Messenger will not sign me in until I upgrade from version 6.10207. The webcam works when I use the scanner wizard but I cannot connect to another computer to use it.

I found the solution to my problem. It was suggested that I upgrade to Messenger 7.0 and offered this link: http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.a... I followed the link and downloaded Messenger 7.0 and it successfully installed. I haven't tried my webcam yet, but it looks like it should work fine now. Yeah!!! Hope this helps anyone else who may have this problem.

I did not uninstall the older version of Messenger. I just downloaded version 7.0 and now everything is working fine. I had corrected the problem before reading the other solution, so I did not follow the instructions for that solution and cannot comment on it. Thank you for your input.

First uninstall the one you have
then do a windows update on your pc
you should be able to download an update for messenger after that.
If you still can't then open add and remove programs
then windows programs scroll down and make sure there is no check mark in windows messenger
if there is then take it out once done restart pc then download windows live messenger again

How to Install a Webcam

Purchase a camera. Webcams can range from a basic model for around $30 to ones that contain a motion sensor for around $350 or so. Most mid-priced models come with a microphone install. Decide on what this camera will be used for and choose accordingly.

Read the installation instructions completely before attempting to install the camera. Although this may seem tedious and unnecessary, it can save time and headaches in the long run.

  • 3 Back up the computer's hard drive just to be safe. This will allow for a speedy recovery should the installation mess up the computer.
  • 4 Install the webcam software. Before deciding to install the disc that came with the camera, check the Internet for an updated version of the software and download that if available.
  • 5 Plug in the webcam. The software should give a prompt at the appropriate time. they are usually installed with a USB cable. If installed correctly, the computer will acknowledge so by popping up a message saying it can see the new device.

Download an instant message program if using the web camera for chatting. Some free IM download programs include Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger and Apple iChat.

I don't know how to access my webcam

    Hello:
For the majority of webcam uses, you would use a separate program that accesses the webcam. Examples include: If you only want to record videos and take pictures, you can use Windows Live Movie Maker. You can download it at http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other

I can't install windows live messenger, it encounter a network error while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\Messenger.msi

I found the site below and thought of your situation. Here is the message I received:
    -------
"Network error occurred while attempting to read from the file:
    C:\\WINDOWS/Installer/Messenger.msi
Please close all other open programs, and then try again. It looks like another program is preventing the installer from working. hr.0x80070643"
    -------
If it's the same message, and you haven't found a solution yet, then this will do the trick. Although it's an older post, it works just fine for the current 14.0.8117.416 Messenger update issue:
    http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=346865&forumid=1
Scroll about halfway down the page. Look for Microsoft Customer Support (Joan, Technical Support, Live Essentials):
Note: For the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, I downloaded from this link (you'll want the latest version wherever you get it - 2.5.0.1):

Hi i just got a acer desktop with window vista . i am trying to use msn im messeraen but it want let me send

First, try restarting the computer, if this does not fix the problem then you can try re-installing messenger.

Go to control panel, under programs, click uninstall a program. Then find Windows Live messenger in the list(it may take a while to load). Click messenger, then click uninstall. You will need to go through the installer following the instructions.

Then you can download Windows Live Messenger again from the microsoft website. Click here for a link. You can download and install the program by following the on screen instructions. Make sure you read through and choose the right settings.

Then when you run messenger this should fix the problem. If it does not or you need more help, then let me know and i will do my best.

My computer's WebCam wont work on Windows live

See section C. Windows Live Messenger in the info below.
Normal 0 Web Camera’s have to be setup on the program they are to be used with. Just installing the camera on your computer does not set it up to broadcast on messengers or Skype.

Each program has Options that have to be setup in order for the Audio and Video to function properly.

    A. Skype Setup:

After downloading and installing Skype (http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/download/skype/windows/beta/downloading/ ) set it up as follows:

    1. Go to Tools, then Options, and click on Audio Settings and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
    2. Then click on the Video Settings.
    3. The camera if Installed Properly will come up and show a video picture.
    4. Then, on the bottom of the page click on Save.

The camera and audio should function properly. Your friends and Family will now be able to see and her to you.

    B. Yahoo Setup:

After downloading and installing Yahoo Messenger (http://www.soft32.com/download_30.html ) set it up as follows:

    1. Go to Messenger at the top left and click on it.
    2. Next go down to Preferences and click on it.
    3. Next Calling and Devices on the right and set the Microphone and Speakers to the computer Audio Card.
    4. Next go to the Test Audio section and (in blue writing) click on “Open the call setup assistant” and follow the instructions on the left window.

    C. Windows Live Messenger:

    1. After you start Windows Live Messenger, expand the view by clicking on the square on top left next to the red X.
    2. Then on the Windows Live messenger window on the right side, click on “ “Show Menus.” And then click on “Show the Menu Bar”.
    3. Next go to the Menu Bar on right side, click on “ “Action.”
    4. Go to “TOOLS” and click “Audio and Video Setting” and follow the instructions.
NOTE: You audio and video should work. Enjoy.

When done both the Audio and Video will function properly so you can chat and see family or friends you are connected to.
    Hope this helps. Bud

When i am on msn and want to put on webcam a message appears in a conversation saying Messenger is not available right now. Please try again later. (0x8ac70202)

This might be a compatibility problem between your webcam drivers with the new Windows Live Messenger program. You may want to:

    1. Update your webcam drivers and see if Windows Live Messenger can detect it when you run the Audio Video setup from its Tools menu.

    2. Or you can downgrade back to the older version of Windows Live Messenger which is compatible for your camera. Doing this however also requires that you uninstall all the Windows Live Beta products from your computer.

Note: You will not see a separate Windows Live Messenger on your Add/Remove programs, instead you will either see there Windows Live Beta products or Windows Live Essentials.

You can download the older versions of Windows Live Messenger from:
