Cannot access internet with a linksys router

Hi! I have a Linksys WRT150N wireless router, it was connected directly to my home computer, the internet worked fine for that computer and my laptop. The router was unplugged and moved to another room, when it was plugged back in I could no longer access the internet. If I plug the modem directly into either computer the internet works fine. If I plug the modem and desktop into the router the internet led illuminates but i cannot access websites can anyone help? i have tried everything i can think of!

i got the same problem too

  • victorgelias Apr 21, 2009

I used my internet just normally, and now i have the same problem: when i connect the modem to the router, and the router to my computer (or even when i dont do that last part) i can make a connection, but it's "local only", i can't access any website. When i plug directly to the modem, i can use the internet, so the problem isnt with my broadband. When i plug a desktop, and connect with another computer with wireless, I can even use the printer from the one which is using wireless, but still can't access websites, so I think the problem is with the internet in on the router. I've tried switching cables, but nothing helped... Can anyone help me?

Make sure DHCP is turned off on the modem or else you will get ip conflicts. Also make sure it is plugged into the wan port on the router

IF NOT THEN -

To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.

If you can connect to the Internet using the LAN cable then your Internet connection is OK.
If you are trying to connect to the Internet using the wireless connection, then your problem is the wireless settings in either the Linksys or the wireless card in your computer.
First check the wireless settings in the Linksys, ie. the SSID and encryption key.
Second check the wireless settings in the computer's wireless card, this must match the route's wireless settings. If it matched then do a Repair connection. this will get the Linksys to issue a new IP address to the wireless card.computer.
If the Linksys wireless settings were changed then configure the wireless card in the computer with these new settings.
