  • monman Jan 19, 2009

Were you able to find a solution for the power on problem? A bad inverter? I have the same monitor with the same problem.

  • gcorm Jan 19, 2009

My power supply doesn't come on .

  • leadell2008 Jan 22, 2009

I have the same monitor also, i had it for almost 2 years, and it was fine, no problems at all, then one week, it just stopped working. I turn it on, it does show a image for about 3 seconds, then it goes blank. The lights and everything are on, you can even hear the sound when you touch the side of the screen to bring up the options in the lower right hand corner of the screen. I have no idea how to fix this.

  • vithoward Jan 23, 2009

Keep searching the internet and you will find literally hundreds of people with the same problem. Faulty capacitors on the power board are the culprit. I'm searching for someone who has tracked down the correct ones to replace.

  • theade Jan 27, 2009

    Same problem.

  • dirtrider61 Jan 28, 2009

I have the same problem, found that with the blue menu light on I hold the off button for a few seconds and the monitor will at least detect the DVI input and after numerous input slections abit of patience it eventually will stay on, I have observed that the colder the ambient temperature in my office the harder it is to get it to stay on.

  • supraholic Feb 18, 2009

I've had this problem for 3 months now. The monitor goes black after 2 seconds of video. Power button stays illuminated blue (indicating a signal) and all of the menu lights are illuminated. It is ridiculous. Do we have any recourse when the manufacturers use faulty components?

  • jprattjr45 Mar 06, 2009

Similar problem... for several weeks mine would "hybernate" when my laptop hybernated, then when I wiggle the mouse, the laptop screen comes back but the monitor would not. If I pulled the power cord from the monitor and plugged it back in, it would flicker and come back on. yesterday it would not come back on. I took the monitor apart (fun project!) and found 8 25v 470 microF capacitors with 7 having the tell tale "domed" top. I will replace them and report back!

the monitor will not turn on at all. it happened after someone was pushing the buttons to turn it on and now it is Kaput! Microcenter repair said call Gateway. Gateway said "find a local technican".

Ok, I just got one last night, and it took a while to open the bugger. Why put screws when there are so many hidden clips to carefully pop? My poor Craftsman club card will never be the same! But, I digest...

There were two bad capacitors, the first and probably the main culprit was a 1000uF 25volt cap that had expanded and vented. I also found a 680uF 25volt cap that started to expand, and when tested it was low, about 550uF.

If you are so inclined, these can be obtained by mailorder (I use Parts Express), but Radio Shack parts can be used in a pinch, just expect to go back in there eventually. I didn't have the 105 degree low ESR caps, so I used regular ones and I had the monitor up and running in aobut 90 mins.

Check for any capacitors that are expanded at the top. Look for a dome shape or feel with your finger, it should be completely flat. Or look for the rubber bottom pushing out where it goes into the board. This is the third monitor I have repaired in the last six months, and each one needed one or two capacitors to fix a dark back-light problem.

The problem with mine is that it sometimes doesn't start up but instead gives a dim Gateway logo only. If I unplugged it and replugged it back in then it would start up normally. I repaired it about 1-1/2 years ago b replacing C862 which was bulged. It worked perfect until a few months ago when it started with the same problem again. I continued using it for about 2 months without repairing it again and then suddenly it died. It no longer would have any display and no LEDs lighting up at all. I opened it up and found that C866 and C1 were bulged and I replaced them. But this didn't change anything it's still completely dead. I noticed something else, but not sure if it was there before a year and a half a go: I noticed that two ceramic capacitors in the inverter circuit are overheated. They have turned brownish and the board has also turned brownish around them. These are c13 and c18. The markings on both are 12J 3KV. I'm not familiar with these markings, but I think they mean 12nF+/-5% and 3kv rating. I removed both of them and measured one at 9nF and the other at 14nF. They are both outside the 5% tolerance (one higher and one lower), but I don't know if that matters. I don't recall if those 2 caps were overheated

Same problem, logo on powerup and a few seconds of display then BLACK. It takes a little work to get down to the power supply but I found the 1000uf @25v was bad, others looked fine. 45 cents worth of capacitor and an hours labor, were back on the road again.

Still like most of my projects, I have several extra screws left after assembly. Oh well, more for the jar.

Risetony is right with regards to checking the capacitors and replacing them.

If that doesn't fix the problem, its most likely an issue with the backlight itself. You may have to completely open up the panel and replace the defective backlight(s), but without a good way to test each backlight, I would suggest taking the monitor to someone with experience replacing backlights. If you see a display briefly, most likely one set of your backlights is fine. If one backlight is defective both sets will cut out after 1-2 seconds.

I have a gateway FDP2275W desktop monitor. the monitor will power up and display the Gateway logo in the middle of the screen, then goes black. The monitor is still getting a signal from the computer as...

This is a common problem with many LCD monitors. The
printed circuit board that provides a stable voltage for the monitor to operate
from starts to fail. The PCB can be replaced, when/if they are available, or repaired

My screen goes black after a few seconds

Sounds like a bad solder joint on the printed circuit board. Once it heats up then it no longer makes good contact and the monitor goes black until it cools down and makes contact again. You could resolder it if you knew where it was but monitors are dangerous to go playing around with as they can hold very high charges of electricity in their capacitors that are very dangerous. It's a throw away world. Go buy a new one.

When I turn on my monitor I can see the Gateway letters come on the screen but then it just goes dark again. It comes on for a split second and then goes dark again.

joel_herrera, Yes, this is a very common symptom of a failing Switch-Mode-Power-Supply and/or Inverter circuit! Very common in 2-4 year old lcd/fpd's. How old is your's? Do you have warranty? Have you tried the Flashlight test? DO THIS! Reconnect lcd monitor to your fully booted PC with a known good WIN desktop screen. Then power "on" the HD2201 and tell me what happens and what you see or don't see after the screen goes BLACK! Shine a bright flashlight onto the screen at different angles and let me know the results. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel BYE
