Question about HP Bestec ATX-1956D 200w HP Part No 0950-4106 (ATX1956D) Power Supply

HP Pavilion 774y power supply replacement

The power went out on my pavilion desktop. It's been doing it sporadically before but now bought the big one. I purchased a new power supply (Bestec ATX-1956D) it was supposed to be a replacement for HP 0950-4106.

It does match almost exactly except the new one has three wires connected to a 3 pin head that are two black and one green that weren't on the original unit. I guess this might be some kind of ground but I can't see anywhere to plug it in.

Also, I got the power going to everything but now it doesn't seem to want to recognize the monitor... and there are no lights showing on my keyboard. Any idea of what that might be? Did I fry my motherboard or something?

I doubt you fried the motherboard
I would be taking my old power supply to the store where you purchased it to make sure they gave you the proper one.
Some power supplys do have that extra plug you may not need to plug it in at all
I can't see your motherboard to show you where to plug it in wish i could help more

SOURCE: Upgrade for Bestec ATX-1956D (HP p/n: 0950-4106)

How about the LC Power LC350M Micro ATX - 380 Watt

or the

Logisys 350W Micro ATX

They should fit your form factor and output as much as 350W being relatively cheap, but neither gets 18 amps on 12V rail...
I think no power supply of that size has an output like that...think about a cheap but substancial chassis upgrade if you need that power...Have a look at directron for the PSUs.

Green light flashes on the back of my HP Pavilion 1270 when I connect the power cable but the desktop doesn't start up ( totally dead) . I assume it is the power supply , so I can buy a new one, but how...

It sounds like the power has failed or is failing. This link will take you to the HP site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph06788&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN#bph06788_section_2
You can try to un-plug the main power connection to the motherboard and then re-connect it. BE SURE THAT THE COMPUTER POWER CORD IS DISCONNECTED! If that fails, you will need to replace the power supply as indicated on the HP site. The last one I bought was about $35.00.
Good luck and please let me know how it works out for you.

Have an hp pavilion desktop that wont power up. Power supply has no output. External a/c power green light is on but no fan action. How do I test the power supply

You can purchase a power supply tester, they are not that expensive. Here is a link for some and if you want you can shop around. Make sure to get a 20/24 pin tester.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=power+supply+tester&x=0&y=0

Also if you do have a bad power supply here is a replacement.

HP PC will not turn on.

It sounds that the Power supply Unit is faulty and needs replacement. The ATX powersupply is easy to replace. you can do it yourself. Just remember how you take it out is how you're gonna install a new one back, remember where the connectors go on the mother board. Remove PC from power mains before you work on the PC. Before you touch the inside of the PC just touch the frame of the PC to ground your self to avoid static. Good luck.

Pc no start.........

You might have a bad power supply. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage of the standby power supply. This voltage is present even if the system is off, plugged in. It powers a small portion of the logic circuit. It should measure within a couple of tenths of exactly +5 volts. If it is low, or high, this will prevent turn-on. The purple wire of the 24 pin connector is what carries this to the motherboard. The color coding layout is found at http://pinouts.ru/Power/atx_v2_pinout.shtml If by chance this voltage is OK, then check the full on voltages also. Repair of the defective supply is probably by replacement of one or more small electrolytic capacitors in the appropriate circuit, especially if you are technically savvy. Capacitors are available through several suppliers; Digi-Key supplyies Panasonic FC series which are suitable for switching power supplies. Or, you may just replace the whole unit.
