Question about Philips 150S (White) 15" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

It started failing, now is dead.

In the past, my 150s monitor sometimes was failing. It didn´t . Just didn´t switch on, or sometimes switch for 1/2 second and swiched off. Other times swithed but the screen got totally blank, keep white while image disappeared and then switched off. The problem disappeared when putting the panel on a dry enviroment, or on a place where the sun gives it some heat, so I thought was just humidity. Now, doesn´t switch at all. Anyone knows posible solution?,

Re: It started failing, now is dead.

If it is over a year or so old - simply replace it There are usually no economic repair solutions.

For the past few weeks my Hanns G 19 inch LCD monitor keeps having troubles displaying a screen. It constantly makes a loud sound that it repeats and it takes several hours before the green light appears...

From the description you give, this sounds like a failure in the circuit board, normally the capacitors go and the thing refuses to power up, however, the fact it defaulted to a low resolution indicates that the actual board is in some way failing, possibly a damaged circuit, or component.

I would think it could be repaired and it may be a simple job for someone who can identify the failing component, however, I think that the cost of getting it repaired would outweigh the cost of replacement

No start ,dead

Hi alonzot,

Here are some basic steps that will help you fixing the problem.

I'm assuming that your unit is dead set without an standby LED light and your outlet is live.1.Power cord - check the cord it might be opened (no continuity). This is due to frequent bending, pulling. 2. Power switch - check for dry joints, open contact. 3.Check the internal fuse- sometimes the fuse fail because of the power surge, replacing with new one will cure the problem, If this is the case I would advice you to use surge protector/AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulator). However if the fuse blew again this is an indication that you have a shorted parts in the power supply, you may visit the link for more info. If no reaction and still the unit didn't power up then you have an open parts on the power supply.

4.If you see that the fuse is intact , don't attempt to touch anything because there some fatalcomponents stored electricity enough to hurt you with a simple mistake only. I would advice you to look for a professional to troubleshoot the power supply. If you want to repair it yourself make sure that you have necessary tools and test instrument. First check bad solder joints(re-solder all cold solder), leaky electrolytic capacitor(sometimes it has bulged at the top but not all, you better have a capacitor checker), open/shorted regulator transistor/IC(mounted in heat sink), open fusible resistor (caused by shorted regulator Transistor/IC), shorted zener diode.

You may also replace the power supply board, try online like and

Also check if your unit is under warranty before opening the back panel, it will void the warranty. Avail it because the manufacturer of your unit will fix it for free or a little charge only.

Hope I helped you.

Have a nice day!

Thanks for using fixya.

There's a green line going down vertically on the monitor screen all the time

a resitor line has failed and you cannot fix it, once they fail thats it ,its there for good. Its same as dead pixels on a monitor, except this is a whole line of pixels, if you hit the area above the line hard it will probably go away but will come back sometime, learn to live with it or buy a new monitor.

I have monitor Philips 150S. It is increasing brightness up to 100% when switch on the monitor and unable to remove that brighness picture. Monitor hot keys also not work. I pluged this to a lap top but...

mohanjith, First thing to investigate is the lcd monitor internal power supply for failed electrolytic filter capacitors on the power supply circuit board. If swollen and leaky, then you might try to replace the bad ones with new ones. Visit YOUTUBE for video clips to see if you can do the investigation/repair. Search YOUTUBE using "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair"!!! Lots ov video clips to learn how to do DIY repair. 12fixlouie

My monitor is 170s black 17" it switches on and off with different delays of time sometimes it works for 5-10 minutes and again switches off by itself, pressing switch sometimes works sometimes not....

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

LCD Monitor blacks in and out for 1-2 seconds

does your monitor have an external transformer as the psu ?
If so, try disconnecting at mains for about 5 seconds and re-connect. failing that we'll need to dig deeper.

Dell E173FP - After sometime the screen switches off

Sorry not a solution - but I have started experiencing the exact same problem over the last month although sometimes, on switching on again, it will run for 10-15 minutes before the problem re-emerges. Initially I put it down to the v. hot weather in July but it still continues. So I would also appreciate any solutions!
