Noise from transaxle - Pride Celebrity X 4-Wheel

  • ahs1234 Feb 17, 2013

Thanks for your input. It clicks going forward and in reverse. No slipping noticed. The clicking noise is made with each rotation of the wheel. Scooter is fairly new. I suspect it's a chipped 'Teflon' tooth in transaxle. The noise does not seem to diminish overtime. It's annoying to me as well as others in the vicinity. Costs too much for me to repair so I donated it to a local mobility store and bought almost new (unused) Golden Companion at half price of new one.

I would also like to add ,this can be a axle bearing, I seen this a few times so worth checking in the future as they can be replaced.

Hi, what kind of noise a clicking a dragging type noise or a slipping type noise ?

If it's a dragging type noise then mostly that 's a bearing however if it's a clicking or slipping noise that will be the main worn gear missing teeth, it's the largest gear and Pride only sell the whole thing.

High pitch noise when going up hill

In your manual it will tell you what grade of slope the the Scooter will safely go up. If the slope is too great the motor will have too much of a load, and the controller will a over current situation and shut down. squealing noise may have to do with transaxle its self than the Motor Brake. The gears in the transaxle could make the squeal noise.

Noise on back axle

Is the noise like a stone stuck in the tyre? If so, I think you have a dry axle, a common problem with Pride scooters and easily rectified. Simply remove the rear wheels, apply grease to the axle shafts, and re-fit the wheels. This should solve your problem. If it's a different type of noise, the problem may lie within the transaxle which would unfortunately involve a costly repair or most likely a replacement transaxle.

1998 VW Cabrio loud humming from what sounds like the transaxle

Have you checked that the noise is not tyre noise?
Interchange the wheels front to rear (or left to right) to see if it has any effect on the noise.

Only do the test below if the car is securely chocked so as not to move, take great care not to contact moving parts!
Securely jack both the car drivewheels off the ground, then 'drive' the vehicle through through the problem drive speed/gears while listening for the noise. If the noise occurs under these circumstances you may be able to further localise the source by listening (very carefully!)with a short hose pipe held to the ear.

Grinding loud noise in the transaxle

sounds like the bypass lever might not be re-engaging, push it in firmly. OR, the brake is sticking. this, of course, is if the noise is a growl or a groan. if it IS a grinding noise, look for something stuck in the trans cooling fan or between the axles and wheels, otherwise it's inside the trans and that's not good [re: replacement]

2004 Saturn ION Transaxle humming noise varies with road speed

I would get a second opinion. A trans will not usually make loud niose and work correctly. A wheel bearing/ hub will make the noise you describe and is far less to fix. Good Luck

1994 Ford Escort Transaxle Noise

I guess you know no matter what the noise is the transmission will have to come out and be overhauled, one question, have you checked the CV joints on the axle shafts?
