The solder joints to the DEW Sensor were "cold joints" which means that the solder joint is defective - is not a sound joint. This means that with temperature variation, the solder joint can intermittently separate and break the circuit, causing the DEW Indicator to come on and completely shut down the camera. Here is a picture from the perspective of the tape cover being at the top of the picture and the rest of the camera at the bottom. The dew sensor will be on your left.

Then, get a real slim soldering iron with a fine point. Open the tape cover and take the tape out. Get a strong light to shine down into the mechanism.

If your camera is like mine was, you may see a brownish material on or around the solder joint - this is flux used in soldering which was applied too heavily, and not heated long enough to burn off. The joint therefore doesn't quite connect the dew sensor to the terminal post - depending upon heat/cold ambient conditions, sometimes it makes contact and sometimes it doesn't .
Heat up the soldering iron - make certain the point is tinned (has a thin film of solder on it). Carefully just touch each solder joint for a couple of seconds - just enough for it to melt, and then quickly remove the soldering iron. You don't want to leave the iron in contact with the solder too long or it may melt other insulation around the terminal. This all probably sounds more complicated than it really is - but it really is just a 5 minute operation. If you've not done much soldering, and feel uncomfortable about trying it, you may want to take it to a radio, tv or computer repair shop and ask them to do it for you.

I have the same camera. What I usually do is to remove the tape and keep the door open for a long period. Then I remove the battery for a short time. After that, the dew disappears. Then I tried not putting the back camera in its case and the dew did not come back (at least not for now). Hope this works for you too.

Suddenly my Sharp VL-Z100 can't record or play any of my cassettes! And after I finish to try to record something a red icon with an X inside appears on the screen. Anyona can help me please?

Clean up your head with the mini Dv head cleaner cassette. If still problem persists, give it to company personnal for repairing this problem, because this is the problem for the head. The head is the costly part in camcorder. So please give it to authorized person other than the local technician.

Dew detected

If you contact Panasonic, they will say to remove the tape, use a hair dryer (low setting) for about 5 minutes and then leave it opened overnight.

or you can try

to put the camera in a plastic bag with the tape door open and insert a silica gel bag (that you find in shoe boxes). Close the plastic bag and leave it overnight. The next morning, the video camera should start working! This is something that an owner tried that worked without the manufacturer's help.

Hope it works for you, too.

Dew Alarm

Many times dew sensor stops giving moisture signal if hot air blows in open cassette compartment for 3-4 minutes from distance through hair dryer.
and some times dew sensor needs to be replaced to stop giving dew signal.

Dew

Model: VL-Z800 Sharp ViewcamZ

I was in Shanghai in Dec 2008 over Christmas and I experienced the 'DEW' problem. The cassette tape door would not close either. I did not experience this before even after 2 years. I suppose the cold & the rain water causes the dew to accumulate in the CAM.

Solution.
I did the reset by taking out the small tiny battery situated just above the big battery. The small battery has a cover. Pull it up & Get the small battery out and the whole camera resets. Re-entering the date & time is the only inconvenience. After reseting, I could use it again, but not for long as the problem comes back. When I came back to Malaysia (Temp 32-34 degrees celsius), the DEW problem disappappers.

You could also try this method to get rid of the dew. Buy a small sack of rice. Yes rice, the uncooked ones. Cut open a small opening just big enough to put your CamCorder into the sack. If you do not want to get your CAM dirty, wrap the CAM with tissue paper. Close the opening with a musking tape and leave it a few days. The dew should disappear from the CAM. It works for mobile phones too when it is accidentally drop into water. Of cause you should not switch on the mobile when it is still wet. It will self distruct if you do. Try the rice solution for a week before you on your mobile.

I get the DEW indication and cam shuts off

try to dry up your camera using electric hair blower drier, dew is present inside your camera, but dont overheat the unit, place your hand between drier and cam to make sure you are not overheating it. if the trouble is still there, the sensor is defective and you need pro fix.

The "DEW" indicator is illuminated on my Viewcam, what do I do to turn it off?

This means there is moisture inside the Viewcam. Try taking the tape out, leaving the cassette compartment open for 2 hours to allow any condensation to evaporate. If the DEW indicator is still illuminated call a Sharp authorized servicer.
