Question about D-Link DSL-G604T Wireless Router

1 Answer

Virtual server keeps resetting

Can open a port for something easy enough by 'adding rule' in the virtual server part of the router; however whenever the computer is switched off, the rule becomes no longer applied, requiring me to go back into the router and reapply it. Additionally, whenever the router is reset/switched off the rule dissappears completely and must be remade.
Any ideas? The model is a DSL-G604Tv2

How to setup a virtual server on router

Virtual Server, also referred to as Port forwarding or port mapping can be setup with the router.

The setup of the virtual server depends on what you want to setup.

Virtual server is used to allow computers not on your internal network or computers on the internet to access a resource or service on the internal network.

For example:

Say you have an FTP on your internal network that you want people on the internet to access. To set that up go to the virtual server screen on the router and specify the IP address of the computer on the internal network that has the FTP server on it. The private port that you want to specify would be 21 because port 21 is FTP. The public port could be any number you want it to be, for ease of explanation lets just say it is also 21, that is the port the public would use to access the machine. For a computer on the internet to access the FTP server on the internal machine they would open up a web browser and type FTP://(WAN IP ADDRESS, found on main status page of router screen):21.

A better example would be FTP://1.1.1.1:21

How do i make nat open

You have two options:
1. You can open port using router's web interface. Check what ports used your software, what protocol TCP/UDP then go to web interface's virtual server and add new user's rule. Then you have to save and reboot router. Every time your PC IP changed (static IP recommended) or program you using changed port number you have to do web interface operation again.
2. Download and install Router Commander (fully compatible with your router) and that's all. The software will forward ports automatically.

How do i change my NAT to open on my tenda W307R

Im only a couple years late, but i spent an hour on my computer last night to figure it out. Enter your ip adress in the top bar thingy. Enter your username and password. You should now see something with the selections "System Status, Setup Wizard, etc" on the side. Click on Virtual Server. Under Virtual server, you should see something called "DMZ Settings". In there, enter the ip adress of the computer/console you want to open the NAT. Click enable, the hit apply. Your Done.

Error "virtual server add error" failed. stats: 1

I had this error. There was an old rule for an old device that was no loonger connected. If a device that has a rule is not connected, no information will show up telling you there is a rule. But it already exists and is hidden. The rule will only show up when the device is connected. But the rule is active wether or not the device is connected.

The only .I found to fix this is to reset the router to defualt settings, this will remove the old device and it's tules from memotry.

Configure the firewall

You can use the Virtual Server to forward an individual port to one of your computers. You cannot forward the same port to multiple computers. In order to configure the Virtual Server you need to know the IP address of the computer that needs the port opened and the service port number. The links below will help you find the IP address of your machine. If you don?t know which port needs to be opened, try checking the software manufacture?s support website for information on use behind firewall. Configuring the Virtual Server: Step 1 Access the device configuration by entering 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. Login with your username and password. The default username is admin and the password is blank. Step 2a If the port you need to forward is a common port, it will be under the predefined virtual server list at the bottom of the page. Click the pad and paper icon next to the virtual server entry you want to use. The Protocol Type and Service Port fields are preconfigured. Click the Enable radio button to use the virtual server. Enter the private IP address of the computer that will use the service port. Configure the Schedule as needed, then Apply your settings. Step 2b If the port you need to forward is not listed under the predefined virtual server list at the bottom of the page, you can create a new entry for your application. Click the Enable radio button to use the virtual server. Give your virtual server a name. Next, enter the private IP address of the computer that will use the service port. Then, select the Protocol Type and enter the Service Port. If you don?t know how to use Private and Public port assignment, then just enter the same port number in both fields. Configure the Schedule as needed and Apply your settings.

Nortel Contivity VPN client?

Nortel Contivity will work with the your D-Link router, however its functionality depends on the authentication type (AH will not work), NAT compatibilty mode, and disabling keep alives on the server. Contact your Network Administrator to find out how your VPN is configured. Step 1 Verify that you are using the latest version of firmware on your router. Step 2 Login to the Web Management for your router by entering its IP address (192.168.0.1) in your web browser. The default username is admin, and the password is blank. Step 3 Click the Advanced Tab to access the Virtual Server Settings. There is a list of pre-defined Virtual Server Rules towards the bottom of the page. Find the IPSec Rule. Click the pen and paper icon to edit its settings. Enable the rule, enter the IP address of the computer attempting to connect to the VPN in the Private IP field, then Apply the changes. Step 4 Create a new Virtual Server entry. Name the Virtual Server, "NortelVPN". Enter the IP address of the computer attempting to connect to the VPN in the Private IP field. For the Protocol Type, select Both. Enter 9550 for both the Public and Private Ports. Set the Schedule to always, then Apply the settings. Step 5 Access the Tools Page, then click the Misc button. Disable IPSec Pass-through, then click Apply. If the VPN Server is properly configured to work with clients behind NAT routers you should be able to connect to the VPN.
