From my experience this might be one of two things...

if it's shutting down while you're installing windows, i'm thinking you might have a problem with the motherboard channel for your CD drive. i saw this happen to a computer at work - we couldn't install windows because it cut off halfway through and blue screened on us.

it might also be a case of a bad hard drive, if you have any testing utility like drive fitness test i'd give that a shot. it sounds like a new one, but they're bad out of the box sometimes.

hope this helps

Help Upgrading Processor

You'll find the information you seek at both the processor company and the motherboard company. As for remounting it in a Compaq case you may run into some issues of the On/Off Switch, power lead, reset button ect...matching up. You might be suprised at how inexpensive a new computer case is. I've seen some as low as $25. Your power supply can be removed and it will fit in your new case. You may just have a easier go of it. Good luck...please leave a rating, thank you kindly

I have a Compaq presario V2000. Right now I have 60gig internal hard drive. Is there a max internal hardrive I should purchase? I can buy up to 250 gigs? How much would you recommend I purhcase?

Usually, the more storage the better. You can go up to 260 gig total with a primary 100 gig drive and a secondary 160 gig drive. Note that with the extra drive, the unit will use more power so think about that first.

RAM memory in a Presario computer

Hello,

No, it does not matter what size ram modules you have installed, aslong as they are supported by the laptop.

You can have 128MB on one slot and 1024MB on another for example, but these days its more common to have sizes like 1024MB and 2048MB. As long as the size and speed, type is supported it will work.

Thank you,
I will fix it!!

Slow pc

Hello juliet_34x,

Whats also important to perform when you up your memory to 2 gig is to adjust your Paging File as well. At 2 gig of primary memory, you will need to adjust the Paging File to 3000 (2 GB X 1.5) and Maximum size to 4092. In addition, if your computer was performing slow before the memory upgrade, you should perform disk cleanup and defrag (this will help alot).

Hope this helps and good luck.

Install hard-drive

Sata drives don't have an option to be master/slave like IDE drives, b/c the Sata cable is per device. If the computer's not pulling up the sata drive, open device manager (right click  my computer, properties, hardware tab, device manager) and look for a yellow question mark. You'll have to install drivers for it more than likely.

Ram memory

Okay, I have a stupid question, the more powerful the chip the hotter it runs. It could be the second slot will not work with a 1 gig because of heat issues and ventilation?

I have the same problem, with 2 one gig chips. I am going to try to replace the easy access slot with a 1/2 gig chip. I'll let you know.

Cheers,
Paul
